SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
FOR STUDENTS PLANNING TO STUDY ABROAD
There are a limited number of special scholarships available to support students who plan to study
abroad in Spring 2016. Most scholarships are competitive and application deadline dates are
strictly followed (and coming up soon). Read scholarship announcements for eligibility and
application requirements.
The Brian Lacey ’72 International Fellowship in Social Justice
The Brian Lacey International Fellowship in Social Justice is designed to encourage and honor
students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement as well as a dedication to a
deeper understanding of issues of social justice. This award is intended to recognize students who
show initiative, imagination and motivation to apply their academic skills to the betterment of
humanity. The fellowship will be offered twice annually (award amount each semester is $2,500) to
assist semester-long study-abroad students whose program of study includes a significant
component of scholarship focusing on issues of economic, political, and social justice, and/or
community service.

The Marta Umanzor Study Abroad Scholarship
The Marta Umanzor Study Abroad Scholarship Fund has been established to honor the legacy of
Professor Marta Umanzor for her skills as a teacher of the Spanish language. The $500 scholarship
encourages and supports Spanish majors and minors studying abroad in Spanish-speaking
countries in Latin America. Preference will be given to a student participating in a study abroad
program with a community engaged learning component.
Application deadline: Monday, October 19, 2015

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of
2000. The scholarship is for U.S. undergraduate students receiving Federal Pell Grant funding who
plan to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. The on-line application for Spring 2016
study abroad programs is now open. Details available at:
