Hello everyone,
I am standing in for Rodney as he has been unwell and was unable to attend our last committee
meeting. Get well soon Rodney!
Congratulations to the directors, casts and crew of our back to back productions “Panic Stations”
and “James and the Giant Peach”
Fred Petersen, master of farce, once again produced the goods at very short notice by assembling
an experienced cast and crew. In a traditionally quiet season, it attracted good audiences, who went
away with smiles on their faces.
Katie Toner manage to wrangle a herd of TAG members into a very enthusiastic and enjoyable
“James”. Playing to full houses in their short showcase season, these up and coming young actors
are the future of Garrick and other theatres. Thanks to the dedication of numerous mentors and not
forgetting parents who formed the chauffeur service. Well done all you gorgeous young things.
The Awards Night was enjoyed by all, who attended. MC’d by the inimitable Ken Harris, and
supported by Barbara Brown, who cracked the whip and almost managed to make everyone stick
to the program. There’s always one, isn’t there! (Mea culpa)
The Management Committee has been in discussions with the City of Swan regarding major
renovations to the theatre building. Please see article re Season 3.
As we are serving a light supper during Gallipoli season, we do need an extra body on the FOH
roster to work alongside me with simple preparation and then serving and quick pack up.
Enjoy the start to Autumn and revel in this slightly cooler weather. You’ll be reaching for your
doonas before you know it.
Fondest, Lynne

SEASON 3
The City of Swan has informed us that they need to do major works to the building
which involve total rewiring with resultant removing of the roof, filling in of eaves
and numerous other tasks. They are currently sifting through tenders and the
intention will be to commence works straight after Garrick Salutes Gallipoli.
As a result, Season 3, “Prepare to Meet thy Tomb” will be a non starter this year.
Lynne was going to organise a reading but due to other commitments she has put
this on the back burner. At this stage we don’t know when this show will be
mounted, but hopefully sometime in 2016.

“GARRICK SALUTES
GALLIPOLI”
FRONTLINE VOLUNTEERS
Please read the following dispatch as a matter of High
Priority.
Attention! All regular (and the not so regular)
FOH civilians for our next entertainment event
"Garrick Salutes Gallipoli" will be required to be
in full mess dress, that is black skirt for the ladies,
black trousers for the men, to be matched with
white blouse or shirt, whichever applies. Matching white apron with mob cap will be supplied on
site for the ladies, black bow tie for the gentlemen.
Therefore we are appealing to the "not so regulars" to be ready to offer their services for this
auspicious
occasion, and when NCO Yvonne makes contact
you will jump to attention and be free to help.
This request has come from HQ.
Signed Matrons Susan Vincent and Kerry
Goode.
Over and out, really appreciating all offers of help
for this season.
For your further edification be it known that a
simple light supper is being served in the canteen during intermission.
Lynne Devenish is supervising the actual catering
but she will be calling on extra hands to help
serve every night. Please put your hands up if you
would like to volunteer.......
yes You, You & You.......
and contact Yvonne Starr to be put on the roster.
Phone 0409 112 695/ 9279 9642 or
[email protected]
CATERING NOTES....
We need extra people to be rostered for Front of House
for the next production.
We’ll be serving soup and rolls during the interval so I
need someone working alongside me for preparing and
serving etc.
All the cooking is being done offsite, it just needs heating.
Simples!
Please give me a call if you have any questions or just
contact Yvonne Starr to be added to the roster.
Thanks, Lynne 0488 906 076
“Silhouette”
by Simon Brett
directed by Fred Petersen.
Season:- July 30 31
August 1 2 6 7 8 9 12 13 14 15
Rehearsals will commence approx. 8th June
AUDITIONS SUNDAY 17th MAY
Due to major renovations occurring at
the theatre during May/June, time and
place will be advised later for auditions.
ROLES TO BE FILLED
Martin Powell, a successful charismatic
actor (early fifties)
Celia Wallis, a successful attractive actress
(early forties)
Detective Inspector Bruton, good looking
(mid thirties)
Detective Sergeant Fisher, a burley plain
clothes-man. (25-30)
WPC Leach, a Police woman ( mid twenties)
Detective Constable Wilkins.....(35-40)
WPC Carter..............Police woman (25-30)
Neville Smallwood........Journalist (mid
thirties)
Detective Bruton questions actress Celia
Wallis about the murder of her husband
Martin. Celia is quite obviously in the
clear, Neville Smallwood, the drunken
journalist sleeping in her bed, is an extremely shady character who argued with
Martin before the murder.
The solution to the initial puzzle is simple,
however, all our expectations of the characters and the plot are turned on their
head. Not even the figure silhouetted eerily against the glass front door is at all
what he or she seems. The denouement of
this witty and original play will surprise
and perplex.

Get well quickly Rodney, it’s no fun being sick.
There are several people who have been a bit off colour recently so quick recovery
everyone.
“Good acting, real acting, is impossible to spot........”
“The best acting is instinctive. It is not intellectual, it is not
mechanical, it is instinctive”
ONE ACT SEASON & DRAMA
FESTIVAL CIRCUIT
We are calling for expressions of
interest from those who want to know
more about the One Act Seasons and
Drama Festival Circuit.
Lynda Stubbs is our Co-ordinator for
2015 and she would like to organise a
meeting for all those interested to discuss the criteria for the competitions
and how to select a suitable play. This
will be invaluable to any prospective
directors and should greatly enhance
your chances of being selected for a season and subsequent entry in the festivals.
Lynda can be contacted on
[email protected]
VACANCY
We are always in need of tradesmen and handy men to help out
at the theatre. If you are retired
but wish to keep active why not
volunteer you time and skills to
the club.
Currently we are looking for
someone with cabinet making
skills to look at some work
backstage in the wardrobe area.
All materials are paid for by the
club so nobody is out of pocket.
VOLUNTEERS
are the backbone of
GARRICK THEATRE
PROPS ROOM
Peter and Elaine Gilberthorpe, the dynamic duo, have recently had a big clean up
(again!) in the props area. They still have the mezzanine area to complete but
require a couple of younger able bodied energetic assistants for that. Please call
them if you can help.
NOW...
Having said that, Committee are extremely concerned about how quickly this area
becomes a dog’s breakfast again. Besides the fact it makes it hard to locate items
and blocks the emergency exit, it shows a complete lack of respect for our theatre
and its members. Unless you are an authorised person involved in a production you
are not allowed access to the area to collect props. If returning props please make
sure they are put away correctly and always liaise with the Props Supervisor.
Acting in theatre or television or screen is only for the
irrecoverably diseased, those so smitten with the need that
there is no choice.
~ Michael Shurtleff
