Welcome to Leigh Place
We would like to give a warm welcome to our new residents that have
joined us at Leigh Place. On behalf of all staff we all greet you in good
grace. We also hope that you are content and comfortable living at Leigh
Place.
May became the month to celebrate mothers! We honoured all women
this mother’s day - aunties, care givers, friends and of course mothers.
Everyone may have played a significant role in someone’s life as a mother
figure and we celebrated this with a morning tea and a presentation of
gifts in the afternoon. We hope you enjoy your personalised cups and
we would like to take the time to thank you for the never ending task of
being a loving mother/significant motherly figure.
In June we will be supporting the cancer council and hosting our own
Biggest Morning Tea! We ask for a gold coin donation at the door.
Please refer to your activity calendar for times of all the wonderful
activities we have planned!

Comedy Corner
In light of our Mother’s Day celebrations last month we have a special
comedy corner just for all the mums out there.
I was out walking with my 4-year-old daughter.
She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth.
I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.
“Why?” my daughter asked.
“Because it’s been on the ground. You don’t know where it’s been, it’s dirty, and
probably has germs,” I replied.
At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, “Mummy,
how do you know all this stuff?
“You are so smart.”
I was thinking quickly, “All Mums know this stuff. It’s on the Mum Test. You have to
know it, or they don’t let you be a Mum.”
We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this
new information.
“Oh...I get it!” she beamed, “So if you don’t pass the test, you have to be the Dad!”
“Exactly,” I replied.

This month we will be seeing some
new faces around Leigh Place. We have
a volunteer coming to visit everyone
from Vision Australia. Some of you
may have met Robert already. He
comes every Tuesday morning for a
chat with our residents.

introduce and welcome Robert to

and positive go-getter

Dementia Awareness
Do you have a loved one who is living
with dementia?
Leigh Place is now offering a free
education session for family and
friends who wish to know more about
dementia and how to best support
their loved ones.
It will be held on the 11th June 2015
in the meeting room at 1pm. Please
RSVP to our General Manager
Graham Hooper by the 9th June.
If you would like to be linked to
community events such as external
outings and leisure centres, please
see Barry (volunteer coordinator).
Canterbury Council has a range of
activities and outings for small cost.
This changes monthly so see Barry
if you would like a list of current
events!
We look forward to seeing you all
there!
Photo Permissions
Please remember to fill out your photo
permission forms. Without these we
cannot take and publish your photos
in the newsletter! Please speak to
Carmen if you have any questions
regarding these forms.
Communication Book
Just a reminder to all residents that
we will have a new communication
book system in place of the signing
in/out system. This is in case you
cannot find a carer to notify them
of your absence at Leigh Place. This
is due to fire regulation rules and to
ensure resident’s safety. Thank you
for your consideration.
Winter is Coming!
Just a reminder as the season cools
down to bring cardigans/jumpers to
activities for unexpected changes in
weather.
Christian Church
Services
Starting in June we will
be offering Christian
Church Services.
This will be run by Pastor Paul.
