cash reserves, $36 million was provided by
direct or guaranteed loans by the Unites States
Department of Agriculture (USDA), and $10
million (including $1 million of much needed
working capital) was provided by local donors
through our New Hospital Campaign. The
USDA loan—the largest it has ever made in
Montana—was contingent on a successful
fundraising campaign.
his is a report on the activities of
Livingston Healthcare Foundation for
the three fiscal years ended June 30,
2014, 2015, and 2016, and particularly
on the principal activity of the Foundation during
that time – the New Hospital Campaign to raise
the $10 million needed to complete funding
for our new medical center on Alpenglow Lane
in Livingston. This campaign was the largest
fundraising effort in Park County history and
raised more than $9.5 million of our $10 million
financial goal during these three years. The
campaign was completed in October, 2016,
surpassing the $10 million goal. We also list in
this report our very generous donors for fiscal
years 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Our Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit organization created to support the
mission and activities of Livingston HealthCare.
All operating expenses of the Foundation are
funded by Livingston HealthCare. Therefore,
100% of every dollar given to the Foundation
by donors is spent to fund those Livingston
HealthCare needs intended by the donor.
Fiscal years 2014, 2015, and 2016 were pivotal for
Livingston HealthCare, the Livingston HealthCare
Foundation, and our healthcare community at
large. Together, Livingston HealthCare and the
Foundation planned, built, equipped, funded,
and ultimately moved into a new 125,000
square-foot medical center that is physically,
aesthetically, and medically one of the finest
hospitals and medical provider clinics of its size
in the country.
The cost of the new medical center and its new
equipment was $45.5 million. Of this total cost,
$500,000 was paid for by Livingston HealthCare
In recognition of the restorative powers of the
arts and the important role of the arts in our
community, the campaign also included efforts
to acquire paintings, sculptures, photographs
and other works of art from local artists. With the
help of our expert art committee, we were able
to purchase or receive as gifts a treasure trove
of art works, and we can display on extended
loan (from the Museum of the Rockies), eleven
stunning paintings by Russell Chatham. Our art
collection is a daily inspiration to our patients,
employees, and visitors.
Our Foundation board was stunned by the
generosity of our community and by its obvious
commitment to outstanding local health care.
As past Chair of the Livingston HealthCare
Foundation and Co-Chairs of the Foundation’s
New Hospital Campaign, we want to express
our profound gratitude and appreciation for
your philanthropic support of our efforts to help
provide this wonderful new medical center for all
of us. Thanks to you, our terrific 330 colleagues
at Livingston HealthCare stand ready to help all
of us in times of need.

COMMUNITY PHILANTHROPY
YOU MADE THIS POSSIBLE!
In fiscal years 2014–2016, our community contributed
more than $9.5 million of the $10 million New Hospital
Campaign financial goal and, in late 2015, our new
medical center was open for business.
Undoubtedly, this wonderful new medical facility would
not have become a reality without our supportive and
devoted community. Through the power of philanthropy,
full-time and part-time residents, businesses, and
foundations committed enough financial support that
we were able to complete funding for construction and
equipping the new facility. Thank you for your continued
commitment to high quality healthcare for our families,
neighbors, and visitors.
communities where you knew your neighbor.
She loved Livingston for its small and close
community. To her, everyone was family.”
With Glynna’s passing in 2012, it was
important for her family to continue her
legacy through philanthropy by contributing
to the New Hospital Campaign in ways that
commemorated Glynna’s personality and
convictions.
n October of 2015, when LHC patients
and other Park County residents entered
the new Livingston HealthCare medical
center, their reactions were priceless:
amazement, disbelief, wonder. Their first
impressions of the new facility came by way
of the spectacular Glynna W. Freeman Atrium.
The beautiful Montana stone columns and tile
floors, stunning grand staircase, and lovely
Chatham paintings are compliments of the
generosity of the Lee Freeman family.
Glynna Freeman was raised in the oil fields of
Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming, as her father
was a petroleum engineer. She received
a scholarship to attend Smith College in
Massachusetts, where she met her future
husband, Lee. Once married, she attended
law school, became a highly-respected
Chicago attorney, and practiced law alongside
her husband. The couple purchased a home
in Montana in 1979 in order to start ranching
in addition to their legal work. “She practiced
law, but she always had a desire to be a
cattle rancher,” Lee Freeman says. “We spent
most of our time practicing law, working on
the ranch, and following our children in their
various theatrical endeavors.”
“She also loved being able to see how
efforts to better a community actually made
life for people she personally knew a little
easier,” Cassidy says. “My mother believed
so strongly that every person deserves to be
taken care of. One of the biggest struggles
of this country is our ability to make each
other feel taken care of. Healthcare, or a lack
thereof, plays a big part in this. I think every
community, no matter how small or remote,
deserves the same kind of medical attention
and technology as a big city.”
The Freemans are proud to support Livingston
HealthCare and are amazed by the new
The Freemans’ three children, Crispin, Clark,
and Cassidy, caught the acting bug and are
enjoying successful careers in Hollywood.
Crispin Freeman is a prominent voice actor
featured in many hit video games while Clark
and Cassidy Freeman have performed on
television and in major motion pictures.
Glynna was a highly regarded and dynamic
community member, serving on numerous
boards including Community Health Partners,
Livingston HealthCare, and the Livingston
Depot Center. Daughter Cassidy Freeman
recalls Glynna’s affinity for the Park County
community. “My mother grew up in smaller

medical center. “It’s warm and inviting,” says
Lee. “The equipment and building is very
impressive. It has made a terrific impact on
the community, as it’s a better hospital than
you can find in a long radius. I hear nothing
but good things about the ability to get care
here without traveling.”
As more and more patients and visitors enter
the Glynna W. Freeman Atrium, her legacy
touches each individual. “I like to think,” says
Cassidy, “that her spirit is there smiling and
hoping all the patients that pass through feel
taken care of and safe.”

Livingston HealthCare Respiratory Therapist
and Employee Donor
honda Peterson had just left
Yellowstone National Park, headed
toward I-90, on a relocation road
trip from Kalispell to her new home in
Lander, Wyoming. As she drove parallel to
the Yellowstone River—past beautiful cattle
ranches and towering mountains—Peterson
knew that one day she would call this home.
Nine years later, Peterson made that
dream a reality and purchased a home in
Livingston. Later, Peterson was hired at the
Livingston HealthCare Sleep Center, working
with Dr. Pascual as a respiratory therapist.
She became a donor to the New Hospital
Campaign by joining the Employee Hour Club
during the “family phase” of the campaign in
2014.
“It was great that as employees we were
offered the opportunity to participate,” said
Peterson, “because we are not wealthy like
a lot of the other donors who contributed.
The way we were allowed to donate through
payroll deductions meant that we could still
be a part of the donor team and really feel
like we contributed.”
During the transition to the new medical
center and a new sleep center format, work
for Peterson became scarce. She joined a
medical travel company and signed a twoyear contract to be placed in Sioux City,
Iowa. A year into her contract, a full-time
respiratory therapist position opened up at
Livingston HealthCare and she jumped at the
chance.
Peterson is elated with the new facility. “It is
a great addition to the community—everyone
that has worked on it can be very proud.
Since I have been back, I have only heard
positive things,” she says. “It’s like part art
museum, part ski lodge!”
