This Week’s Movement Group Theme: Valentine’s Day It’s almost Valentine’s Day! Today we had fun getting ready for this upcoming special day. We started by doing the “Sweetheart Dance” during which we practiced taking turns and listening to directions. Then, we each chose a heart that told us a different motor task to perform (jump, march, etc). We then pretended to be mailmen delivering valentine’s into a mailbox while taking turns pushing each other on scooters! We played “Cupid Says” (like Simon Says) to work on balance skills (stand on one foot, jump over the heart, etc). Next, we had a toss with a heart shaped balloon and then read a story about Valentine’s Day. For our fine motor project we made a “stained glass” heart by painting with an eyedropper! Happy Valentine’s Day! To practice at home, we can: Sing “5 Pretty Valentine’s” Five pretty valentines waiting at the store. Someone bought one and then there were four. Four pretty valentines shaped like a V, Someone bought one and then there were three. Three pretty valentines said: 'I love you' Someone bought one and then there were two. Someone bought one and then there was one. One pretty valentine sitting on the shelf. I felt sorry for it, so I bought it for myself! Enjoy a neat fine motor project by making tissue paper hearts. Have your child paint an entire piece of paper with vinegar and then cover it with tissue paper hearts. After the vinegar has dried, have your child peel off the hearts to reveal hearts stamps on their paper. Provide assistance as necessary. Use a cookie cutter to make hearts out of play dough with your child. Once dry, obtain an old candy box and practice tossing the hearts into the box. Get a box of candy conversation hearts and have your child practice patterns and or sorting with the varying colors. Say ‘I love you’ at least once a day!!!
