P a re n ts’ C o r n er Tips for shopping with kids Kids love shops, but how do you stop a toddler from blackmailing you into buying something just to avoid a tantrum? Before you go shopping, set some ground-rules. Let your child know that they can come with you, but only if you buy what’s on the shopping list. When you get to the shop, ask your child to repeat the list to you, and get him/her excited about finding the items. They can get involved in the decision-making by picking their favourite flavour or brand. This helps give them ownership of the purchases, and keeps them from getting bored. Then try to avoid any dramas at the checkout counter by reminding your child about what a good job they’ve done.
