STATEMENT OF PROBABLE CAUSE
The Complainant states that the following facts establish probable cause:
Complainant and/or Signing Officer designated below, declares under penalty of perjury, that he/she has
reviewed police reports relating to the above-named Defendant and the allegations contained herein,
and/or has spoken with peace officers having knowledge of the incident, and based upon that information,
believes the following to be true and correct.
On March 18, 2017, police officers responded to 1220 17 th Street SW, Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota,
on a report that a man had pointed a gun at a female. The reporting party informed police that AS had
knocked on the door and told him and his family that she needed help because a man had pointed a gun at
her. The suspect was identified as JASON RICHARD LARSON, date of birth 11/16/1979, the defendant herein.
The suspect was located leaving the area in a vehicle. The suspect was apprehended by police in the
1100 block of Kingswood Crescent in Faribault. The officer saw a black AR-15 rifle in the rear back seat
of the defendant’s vehicle. The officer observed that the defendant appeared intoxicated. The defendant
made the following statements:
AS is an acquaintance. She came over unexpectedly. She was never inside of his residence. He said
he felt threatened by AS. He took his rifle out and put in the backseat of his truck. He said the rifle is
unloaded.
The defendant was placed into custody without incident.
Officer Alexander met with the female, AS. The officer observed that AS’s appearance and clothing
appeared disheveled. AS was pacing, crying and hyperventilating in the driveway of the residence. AS
provided the following statements:
She had been at JASON LARSON’s house. They had consumed some drinks. He was supposed to
bring her home in the morning. He was getting “touchy” with her and she told him, “No, don’t do that.” She went to the bathroom and locked herself inside. She was in the bathroom for about an hour. He
told her to call the police. She opened the door and asked him what was wrong with him. She got mad
at him. She told him to stay away from her. She was trying to get her belongings and leave. He threw
her clothes out. He was holding a long black gun. He had loaded the gun. He told her he was going to
shoot her. She tried to leave the residence but he told her he was going to shoot her again. She ran
across the street to a house and knocked on the door for help. She was hiding behind a truck until
someone opened the door.
She initially indicated that she was not hurt physically. She denied that she had been in a relationship with
the defendant. She said they had only texted each other.
AS later asked the officer if she could go to the hospital. She became very emotional. AS was transported
to the hospital for an examination for suspected sexual assault. AS told the SANE nurse the following
information:
She was forced to have sex with the defendant. The defendant had vaginally penetrated her with his
penis while he held her down. She indicated that she is menstruating right now.
3
The officer observed that when initially asked about whether she was forced to engage in any activity AS
became extremely emotional and hyperventilated and needed assistance in calming down.
The defendant was informed of his Miranda Rights. He declined to speak to the officer without an attorney.
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49., intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled
court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may
otherwise be issued by the Court.
