Just imagine, 10 days travelling inside a song
!
about the OUTBACK CHOIR
For so many reasons The Outback Choir with
Jonathon Welch will lift your soul. It won’t
just be because the choir is conducted by
one of Australia’s leading choirmasters or
because of the grandeur of the setting sun
over Lake Mungo as we sing. It won’t just be
because of the feeling of ‘coming home’ that
you get from your days in the heritage towns
of Burra and Broken Hill and the Hahndorf. It
won’t even be the smell of lanolin in
Kinchega Woolshed that takes you back to
another time or the wonderment on the
faces of people to whom we sing; little
children at Menindee or farmers who gather
by the banks of the Darling River. It won’t
even be because of the exquisite food and
superb accomodation.
!
It will be that all those elements work
together in harmony to elevate the
experience of nature, landscape and song,
shared selflessly with outback people.
!
All this together will make The Outback
Choir something you will never ever forget.
!
Just imagine, ten days living inside a song.

About Jonathon Welch AM
Composer - Vocal Arranger - Singer - Author - Choir Director Workshop Leader - Speaker
!
There simply isn’t room in this brochure to list the talents and
awards of Jonathon Welch. Suffice to say he is one of Australia’s
leading choirmasters, singers and composers. He has appeared
on stages all around the world and in numerous documentaries.
!
!

!
!
!
!
!
!
All this can easily be accessed from JONATHON’S WEBSITE and
it makes for fascinating reading.
!
What might not be apparent from reading the biography are the
other set of skills and talents that make Jonathon so ideal for
The Outback Choir. Jonathon Welch was inspired to work with
people from the streets. In community theatre and in The Choir
of Hard Knocks, Jonathon brought music and opportunity to
people who struggled with life. He sees music as part of what
knits us together as a society. This makes him a great guy as
well as a great talent.
!
It is this deeply human trait that will lend power and empathy to
The Outback Choir as Jonathon directs our singing to outback
farmers; to Aboriginal children; across glorious landscapes and
to whomever is within hearing at both our formal and
impromptu concerts.

!
After decades leading walks and workshops all over Australia
Raymond took up a life of modern travelling troubadour, an
electronic swagman, blogging and writing to an international
following. He is currently on a major trek - The Big Walk - from
Sydney to Alice Springs, crossing much of the country we will
travel on The Outback Choir, collecting and telling stories and
shooting a documentary.
!
Those stories, and contacts made on the walk, will deepen the
experience of our journey as we travel through country that
Raymond has experienced from the road.
!
Trevor ‘Cisco’ Kennedy is a registered yoga and meditation
teacher as well as being a practising naturopath. He brings a
peaceful humour to the journey with his morning yoga/
meditations/walks. Just don’t tell him I mentioned that he is also
a massage therapist.
!
!
Mr Wilson owns Clare Valley Tours and goes simply, like a
Dickensian character, by the name of Mr Wilson. I know his first
name but I’m not telling you. As well as all the professional
driving skills and his luxury coach, Mr Wilson was a wool classer
for a couple of decades and brings that knowledge of rural
Australia to the Outback Choir.
FOOD NOTES
Each breakfast is either catered or provided by the hotel/motel.
Lunches are prepared and presented smorgasbord style each day.
!
Two evening meals, one at the outback station of Duttons Trough
and the other at Bindara Station, are provided. The remainder are
at recommended local restaurants.
We will assist in transport to and
from restaurants although most are
within easy walking distance of the
accomodation.
ACCOMMODATION NOTES

All dietary requests such as gluten
free, lactose free etc. are catered
for.

COACH
NOTES
!
The coach is very
comfortable, has great
open windows and has an
onboard toilet.
We ask that you restrict
your luggage to one small
back pack. Only kidding,
but we do ask that you try
and keep luggage to a
minimum and have day to
day gear like jacket and
camera in a day pack.
!
Do remember it will be
chilly at this time of year.
Prizes will be given for the
most minimal luggage
while the largest might
also draw a prize.
Despite entering small communities in outback
settings we have arranged wonderful
accomodation. The accomodation will be twin
share, sometimes in two bedroom cottages:
• Paxtons Cottages: stone cottages surrounding a
quadrangle in the centre of town - single
supplement available.
• The Royal Exchange Hotel: art deco in the
outback - right on Argent Street - fantastic
accomodation. Single supplement available.
• Bindara Station on the Darling River: now this
gets tricky but will be a highlight of the week.
The accomodation is described as clean,
authentic, with fresh paint and great beds. We
will be spread throughout the Homestead and
renovated Shearers Quarters but we strongly
suggest that you experience a swag and sleep
under the stars. Single supplement tricky unless
you opt for a swag.
• Mungo Lodge: Wonderful contemporary
accomodation on the edge of the World
Heritage Mungo Lakes. Single supplements
limited.
• Hahndorf Resort - two bedroom and single
bedroom cottages. Single supplement available.
!
** I would ask that anyone wishing to purchase a
single supplement should call Raymond to discuss
exactly what is available in different locations.
