“Myofascial Energetic Lengthening Technique”. The
MELT Method ® is a simple self-treatment technique
that reduces chronic pain and helps you stay
healthy, youthful, and active for a lifetime.
At Excel Physical therapy, our certified MELT instructor, Bobbi Reyes, teaches you easy, gentle, selfmassage techniques that are designed to re-balance the nervous system and treat connective tissue
dehydration that often cause imbalances in the body and results in chronic pain. The MELT Method utilizes
specialized techniques with a soft body roller, and four small balls to rehydrate the connective tissue and
restore space to compressed joints throughout the body, including the hands and feet. Because the MELT
Method is designed as a self-treatment technique, you
become your own body-worker by learning how to identify
and treat areas of tension to bring your body back into a
more ideal state. We promote the MELT Method because it
is an appropriate treatment technique for people of all ages
and fitness levels and is a great adjunct to your
rehabilitation protocol. In most cases we can bill your
insurance when MELT is combined with our
comprehensive physical therapy services. Bobbi also offers
group MELT classes at Medicine Wheel Wellness. Please go

class schedule.

Hip Labral Tear:
What you need to know
To protect your hips
Anatomy:
The hip labrum is similar to that of the labrum of
the shoulder in that it is made up of soft tissue and
helps to provide stability to the hip joint. It is an
O-ring like structure located on the pelvis and helps
produce a slight suction to the hip joint keeping it
stable during activities. If there is an interruption in
this suction, you may feel a sharp pain, instability,
and loss of strength. In addition to the labrum, the
hip joint is protected by a variety of muscles that
assist in stabilization.
Why is this stability so important?
The labrum and hip stabilizing musculature are
responsible for maintaining proper biomechanical
function of the lower body during activity to
prevent injury of the hip, knee and ankle.
Stabilization of the hip joint also contributes
specifically to dynamic activity, balance, posture
and improved athletic performance.
When to see a Doctor:
You may experience a sharp catching pain, popping
or just a subtle dull ache deep in the hip. If you are
having pain that keeps you up at night, pain that
isn't relieved by over the counter medication, pain
as a result of a traumatic jarring, injury or fall, or
pain that has been lingering without relief, it may be
time to consult a physician or orthopedic specialist.
How Can a Physical Therapist help:
A physical therapist can help strengthen and
stabilize weak muscles of the hip and lower leg with
specific exercises. They will assess your posture
then advise you on ways to improve and maintain
an ideal position to reduce stress through the hip
joints through strengthening and stabilization
exercises. They can also help decrease any
inflammation of the bursa, tendons, or muscles as
well as show you techniques to manage your
symptoms at home.
