WELCOME
So much has been happening at Yarrabilba!
During April, Lendlease was thrilled to be part of The Week Of
Action community safety initiative created by Logan City Council
in partnership with local police and community groups. Over 500
people attended Darlington Parklands for Movies in the Park and in
May, another great crowd enjoyed the Yarrabilba Design & Delights
Festival. Our special MasterChef guest, Adam Liaw, showed us his
talents, along with interior designers, amazing street performers
and other fabulous food flavours.
Both days were a great success and this really reflects the
enthusiasm of the Yarrabilba community - thank you to all who
attended!
The cooler weather may be upon us, however, there’s never been a
better time to get out and about at Yarrabilba. Find out more in this
edition of our newsletter.
Don’t forget, if you have an event coming up or a story to share,
we’d love to help spread the word. Email your details to:

24 Hour Treadmill Challenge
The Plebs, Pros and Personalities for Suicide Prevention Australia
(PPP4SPA) 24 hour treadmill challenge was held at Yarrabilba
on 27 - 28 May. This was the first time the event had been held
in Logan City with the challenge run simultaneously in Newport
Sydney, Northern Beaches NSW, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Perth,
Melbourne and Adelaide! PPP4SPA is an annual community-led
event held to raise much needed money and drive awareness for
mental health and suicide prevention.
Every 30 minutes new runners jumped on the treadmills, completing
96 spots in total, with some participants running 2 - 5 spots each. The
Kids Lap Dash saw 75 kids run with smiles on their faces. There were
free bananas and oranges for treadmill runners, lap dash runners and
obstacle racers. The obstacle course set up in the grassed area was a
massive hit with the kids.
The night was enjoyed by both runners and supporters with plenty of
entertainment for young and old while the runners covered kilometres
on the treadmills. Other activities included a hula hoop lesson, jumping
castle, food stalls, a sausage sizzle and a coffee van to keep everyone
awake.
The Ambassador and founder of PPP4SPA, Ben Higgs and his wife
Alicia, also visited and ran on the treadmills - they attended all seven
locations around the country! It also raised a very important issue in
our society. Yarrabilba local, Kylie Davies, who co-ordinated the event
said, “I can’t believe just how many people shared their stories tonight
and how many lives suicide has affected.”
The event was a huge success and raised just under $5,000 for Suicide
Prevention Australia.

new uniform.

Yarrabilba Public Art Program
Lendlease has launched a public art program that
will highlight and strengthen the diverse culture of
Yarrabilba and the greater Logan region over a 30year period.
The program is being curated by CREATIVEMOVE
and overseen by a diverse and experienced panel
of key representatives including architect Philip
Follent, curator Justin Bishop, Logan City Council
representatives Robyn Daw and Chelsi Foskett,
Economic Development Queensland’s Kate Keleher,
Indigenous representative Wesley Aird, community
members Melinda Hartley and Kate Meadows, and
Lendlease representatives.
Jodie Cox, Director, CREATIVEMOVE, said, “this
is a unique opportunity to implement a range of
exciting artworks across a whole community planning
framework.”
“These commissions will benefit local artists and
create a public art collection for the community to
enjoy for a long period of time”.
Yarrabilba Art Advisory Panel members
Stage one of the program, launched on 25 May, will see
the first two artworks installed later this year at Darlington
Parklands and at the new display village. The display village
artwork will be conceptualised during a two week artist-inresidency in July.
