Yarm Preparatory School Head’s Message . . . Issue 520 Friday 2nd December 2016 Visit the Prep School Pages:- www.yarmschool.org As always the warmth of our school community has ensured that the cold hasn’t been felt too harshly this week! This feeling of warmth is generated by a combination of many factors; good relationships, a sense of purpose and identity, an ethos of progress and development and the celebration of achievement across the school. I see much daily evidence of all of these factors but particularly in recent weeks the celebration of progress and achievement has been most apparent. I have been inundated with certificates, medals and awards and have thoroughly enjoyed presenting them in assembly. Public appreciation of what has been achieved is very important to us as it rewards the culmination of the hard work and determination required to excel. Our pupils apply themselves earnestly and strive for success. They are inspired to do so by their teachers, peers and parents. It is an exciting culture to be a part of! Each day is action packed for our pupils but at this present time in the term it is even busier as we prepare for our Christmas celebrations. Credit must go to the staff and pupils who are working exceptionally hard to ensure that we finish the term in fine style. I hope that many of you are able to join us for the services and performances that are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks. I urge you all to stay abreast of the final weeks’ events in Mr Stone’s page in the rear of the newsletter, as well as referring to the ‘Everything you need to know about Christmas’ letter sent out last week. Head’s Challenge: Take the given words, and by moving a single letter from one word to the other, make a pair of synonyms, or near synonyms. For example, given: Boast - Hip, move the 's' from 'Boast' to 'Hip' creating two synonyms: Boat - Ship. 1. Pain – Nil 2. War – Zoned 3. Routing – Tip 4. Shot – Teaming 5. Right - Blight Bill Sawyer @HeadPrepYarm Congratulations to Samantha Botterill in 6G for achieving her black belt in Karate after 4 and a half years of training at Yarm Martial Arts Academy. A great achievement! I go to a drama class called PQA and last week we all went to the Arc dressed in ball gowns. I won a prize for the best one liner. My line was “I was chased by lions’. I had a wonderful time. Sophia C, 5P We were so proud to hear that Morven H, 6L has been accepted into the Soprano Section of the National Youth Girls Choir; an absolutely incredible achievement. We look forward to hearing all about it as she experiences loads of amazing opportunities through the year. Well done to everybody for monies raised for the NSPCC through our sponsored events. We have raised a grand total of £4764.57 which will allow the NSPCC to help even more children. Lost Property Grace McKie is missing a named games hoodie and Danielle Devlin is missing a blazer.
