OF INTEREST
NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH
National Safety Month, observed annually in June, focuses on
reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, in our
communities, homes and on the road. Did you know that injuries
are the leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 to 44 and
are a leading cause of disability for people of all ages? Here are
some of the top risks by age group: under 12 months - mechanical
suffocation, age 1 to 24 - traffic crashes, age 25 to 64 – poisoning,
age 65 and older – falls. There are many ways to prevent injuries
and stay safe. How can YOU make a difference? Spread the word
about ways to reduce risk of injuries and encourage communities,
workplaces, families and individuals to identify and report safety
hazards and learn more about important safety issues. About 18
women die every day from prescription painkiller overdoses, this
is 4 times the amount in 1999. Texting or eating while driving are
transportation issues. Almost 1 in 5 crashes (17%) that injure
someone involve a distracted driver. For more information and
ways to get involved in National Safety Month, please visit
www.nsc.org/act/events/Pages/national-safety-month.aspx.

The time has
finally come! A new
villain joined the
other three villains
to take over the
park. Get ready
for a roller coaster
thrill ride centered
around Batman’s
most iconic
nemesis, THE JOKER. And much like
the comic book character himself, this
one promises to be absolutely insane!
The Joker ride is being called a “free-fly
coaster,” which means that riders are
able to spin and flip around, forward
and backward, regardless of which
direction the coaster is actually moving.
And it does move in just about every
direction. The attraction begins with a
90-degree elevator-style lift, 12 stories
into the air, before rolling over hills
and snaking around to the start. The
experience lasts about one chaotic
minute. The unpredictable nature of
the flips ensures a unique ride every
time for each person. The Joker is the
13th roller coaster at Six Flags Over
Texas and, as expected, is located in
the Gotham City portion of the park.
