Yes. SOOK Coach Certification is required in Basketball. What are the dates of the Area Basketball Games? Basketball competitions are held in October and November. What can I do if Basketball competition is not offered in my own Area? You may attend the Sectional Basketball competition nearest your Area—or any Sectional event. What’s the Entry Deadline for Area Games? Don’t be late! Where do I send my Area Games Registration Forms? Check your Area information in the Fall Competition Packet for mailing information. How should I submit my Area Games registration forms? Your Area information in the Fall Competition Schedule will indicate whether forms can be mailed – or if they must be hand-delivered. Will competition in Basketball make my athletes eligible to advance to Winter Games in those sports? Yes. All athletes who compete in those sports at the Area level are eligible to advance. However, you must still submit Winter Games registration forms to enter your athletes in Winter Games. Is there a fee for Area Basketball Games? No. Is lunch provided for athletes & coaches at Area Basketball Games? Each Area is different. You will need to contact your Area Director for that information. Is lunch provided for families & spectators at Area Basketball Games? Normally – no. Teams will play four 6-minute quarters with a 5-minute halftime. A jump-ball will begin play in Level 1. If the regulation games end in a tie, a 3-minute overtime period will be played—with no change of basket. Fouls will be called when the action of a player impedes the progress of an opponent. Only a coach may call a time-out. (Unlimited substitutions on a dead ball with referee’s permission.) There will be a lane violation called if a player is using the lane to his/her advantage continuously. Running with the ball without dribbling will not be allowed. Flagrant double dribbling will not be allowed. Defense in the back-court and the fast-breaks will not be allowed. A junior or women’s basketball can be used for Level 1 Team play. 3—point shots will be allowed in Level 1. National High School Federation Rules will govern in cases not specifically covered in these adaptations. The clock will stop on every whistle. Teams will switch baskets at the half. NOTE—Only 1 coach is allowed on the court to facilitate play. LEVEL 2 MODIFICATIONS – INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Teams will play four 6-minute quarters with a 5-minute halftime. A jump-ball will begin play in Level 2. Fouls will be called when the action of a player impedes the progress of an opponent. There will be a 5-second lane violation rule in effect. Only a coach may call a time-out. (Unlimited substitutions on a dead ball with referee’s permission.) 6. Traveling will be called when a player with the ball exceeds 2 steps without dribbling. 7. Coaches will be allowed to stand at mid-court on the sidelines only on bench-side. 8. Defense in the back-court will not be allowed. 9. Fast-breaks will not be allowed. 10. A regulation size basketball will be used for Level 2 Team play. National High School Federation Rules will govern in cases not specifically covered in these adaptations. 11. You can fill in the information on your computer – print 2 copies (one to send and one for your files) – and then fill in the information for the next athlete. You can do the same for Relay Forms. Do not hit the Reset Form button until you have printed off the form just completed, or you will lose all information. You will use your Tab button to move from one item to another. The Tab will take you to each item in order. Complete ALL information on the forms. Be sure to print 2 copies of each form for your files. Team Name – Keep the same Team Name you used last year or on the Team Roster you submitted. Athlete Name – Enter Last Name, First Name. The name should be entered the same way every time – so it will match the name in our Games system. Date of Birth – You will need to enter the birthdate for each athlete. Please make sure it’s the same date each time!! Events – There is a drop-down menu to select from for events. There is also an Event list included. Use the proper Event Code – or your athlete may end up in the wrong event. Scores – You MUST submit preliminary, practice scores for all events.
