Use knowledge of the order of operations to carry
out calculations involving the four operations

Homework
You will need:
• paper clip and
pencil - for the
spinner
• Write the operations from your Challenge onto the spinner.
• Choose a start number from the range for your Challenge and write it
twice in a pair of the small boxes in the grid below.
• Spin the spinner three times and write the operations
in the order you spin them next to the first box you have written in.
Make sure you have a mix of operators.
• Write the operations in the same order next to the second box as well.
• Put brackets into two different places to get two
different answers using the BODMAS rule.
• Do this for seven more start numbers and
sets of operations.
Spinner operations: + 7, + 10, + 9, − 4, − 6, − 3.
Start numbers between 10 and 20
Spinner operations: + 16, × 2, − 12, × 3, + 20, − 11.
Start numbers between 20 and 30
Spinner operations: ÷ 2, × 4, + 38, × 5, − 27, + 30.
Start numbers between 30 and 40
(24 + (20 × 3) − 11 = 73
(24 + 20) × 3 − 11 = 121
