Bobcats by Tanner Do you know what a bobcat looks like? Bobcats are usually gray, black, red, and orange. They can be white, spotted, and they have a bobbed tail. They are usually really fuzzy and brown. Do you know where bobcats live? Bobcats live in thickets (thorns). They live in the USA and Mexico. They like the woods, swamps, and sometimes deserts. They might used abandoned dens for babies or make a den under a log or in a cave. Have you ever wondered what a bobcat eats? A bobcat eats squirrels, rabbits, mice, birds and some times deer. They stalk their prey. Then they pounce and attack the prey by surprise. They hunt at night. Do you know about bobcat’s babies? Bobcat babies are called kittens. They have a litter from one to six. They’re usually born in the summer. They start eating meat at two months. They leave their home at four months old. The predators of bobcats are foxes, owls, wolves and mountain lions. Owls, wolves and foxes can eat the babies and mountain lions can eat babies and adults. Bobcats can climb trees to escape a battle but if cornered they will fight fiercely. People are their biggest danger. People trap them for their fur. Bobcats are very interesting creatures. The scientific name for a bobcat is “lynx.” Bobcats got their name from their bobbed tail. They live alone until their babies leave. They mark their territory from one to twenty-five square miles. Bobcats sharpen their claws on trees. They are good climbers. Bobcats puff out their fur in the winter to keep warm.
