 CLUB OR ORGANIZATION INFORMATION ADVISORY FOR _________​Northgate High School 2016­2017​_______ CLUB/ACTIVITY FACULTY ADVISOR MISSION OR PURPOSE OF CLUB/ORGANIZATION PAST OR PLANNED ACTIVITIES OF CLUB/ORGANIZATION Academic Bowl (JV/V) J. Haynes To compete in the quiz bowl. Art R. Almand E. Teets Dedicated to fostering the appreciation and understanding of the visual arts. Compete in quiz bowl, paper­and –pencil, and computer competitions throughout the year. Field trips, fundraisers such as pottery sales, and Valentines cookie grams. Anime Art Club G. Johnson To share and foster appreciation for the art of anime. Group discussions about anime and creating anime art. Science Club M. Horne Students are invited to come and engage and share their interest in science. This club is student directed and the events change based on the interest. Bass Fishing Club M. Horne Spend time with fellow students discussing current science topics. Then take those ideas and reach out into the school and community and apply them to everyday projects. To build camaraderie among students while promoting the passion of fishing Beta C. McDevitt L. Lotter K.Wright To recognize academic achievement and promote community service. Lollipop fundraiser, presentation of scholarship, Operation Christmas Child. Chess Club R.Skinner Meet throughout the school year to play opponents of difference levels and expertise. Chick Fil A Leadership Academy D. Barrett K. Brown The chess club is for chess enthusiasts of all levels. For the beginner it is a place to learn the basics of the game and it's history. More advanced players have a place to try their skill against other students. To build leaders in our school and community Colorguard C. Armstrong Performs choreography incorporating dance, flag, rifle, and saber skills. Performs and competes across the country at regional and national competitions each year. Crimson Times/Valhalla S. Gray The newspaper and literary magazine produced by students. Drama­Spring Musical Backstage Players C. Scott To educate students in various aspects of theatre and music. Drama­Thespian C. Scott To produce quality main stage theatrical productions in a comprehensive learning atmosphere. These publications are supported by the sale of advertising and fundraisers. To expose students to a variety of genres within the musical theatre context. The upcoming year three productions as well as attend the Georgia thespian Conference. Group discussions about the passion of fishing. Group will meet and serve in various leadership driven activities. Fellowship of Christian Athletes M. Johnson Under the direction of student leaders­To see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes and coaches. Candy sales to raise money for t­shirts. French Club; French Honor Society K. Swanson Activities for National French Week; French Honor Society Induction Freshman Class Sponsor A. Westbrook To increase awareness and appreciation of the French Language and francophone cultures; to recognize high achievement of students in advanced French courses Provide leadership opportunities to freshman. Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) M. Johnson FBLA is a student organization dedicated to supporting young people interested in business­related careers. Monthly meetings with personal growth and leadership building activities. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Future Georgia Educators (FGE) G. Dyer FCCLA is a student organization dedicated to supporting young people interested in FGE is a student organization dedicated to supporting young people interested in education­related careers, by providing opportunities to develop the skills and traits of quality educators. To educate and inform about the community and our role in global citizenship History Club L. Burns Promote historical content outside the classroom. International Club K. Swanson S. Ortega Junior Class Sponsor E. Ratliff N. Nelson To create opportunities for our students to be exposed to World Languages and their cultures; to provide a welcoming environment to students with international backgrounds or origins Responsible for the planning of the prom each Spring as well as creating a float for Homecoming. Meetings related to thematic historical content and quotes, possible local historical trips. Foreign films festival; international holiday banquet, and Lunar (Chinese) New Year dinner, Key Club C. McKoon An international student­led organization which provides opportunities to provide service, build character, and leadership skills. Group meets monthly, volunteers at various organizations, and raises money for UNICEF and local charities. Literary Team C. Scott Selected to represent NGHS at the GHSA Region and State Literary Meets. Essay contests, extemporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation, vocal solo, trio, and quartet. L. Smith S. Bowie Donations, homecoming float, T­Shirts Bi­weekly after school meetings. Proms are created by the junior class each year. Math Club L. Wilson A. Westbrook J. Haynes The purpose of the math club is to promote the interest and joy of mathematics throughout Northgate High and Brooks Elementary. To expose high school students to the legal system through interactive role play. We promote the interaction of students through math tutoring, math buddies (teaching math to classes at Brooks Elem), and running the school store. Mock Trial P. McIlwaine National Honor Society H. Perry E. Closson S. Barber Honors students in the 11​th​ and 12​th​ grades who have maintained a grade average of 92% or higher and no major disciplinary actions, among other qualifications. Raise money on behalf of charitable organizations benefiting the children in the Greater Atlanta area. New to Northgate L. Wilson To help ease new student transition, feel welcome, and get involved at Northgate. Meet with incoming students and pair them with members to help become accustomed to Northgate. Will put together new student packets to distribute. One Act Plays Backstage Players C. Scott To immerse students in the process of producing a traveling theatrical production. The upcoming year a one act plays that will travel to Region One Act Play Competition. Partners Club D. Martin Interacting and building relationships with people of all abilities to improve society, and individuals in the club. Monthly meetings and periodic social events throughout the school year. Pet Rescue Club R. Almand The club will foster a sense of community, compassion and service in its members. Monthly meetings, working with the local Humane Society, and other organizations, by aiding them with finding shelter rescue animals’ homes and drives for needed expendables. Peer Mentors E.Bass/K. Schettini Junior and senior peer mentors will work with nominated ninth grade students to assist them in their success at Northgate. Peer mentors and mentees meet once each month to address common obstacles experienced in ninth grade. Photography J. Horne To expound photographic knowledge. Provide community service and enjoy shared talents. Principal’s Advisory Board B. Harrison Feedback gathered from students in terms of school improvement and GAPSS visits. Refuge J. Burns Although not a club, students meet with administrators to discuss school improvement topics as well as accreditation visit topics. Under the direction of student leaders­students have an opportunity to come together and pray for each other, students and staff at NGHS. Preparation for regional competition, scheduled for February, will begin in October. Weekly meetings and monthly prayer breakfasts. Sponsors “See You at the Pole” and “National Day of Prayer” SAGE (Student Alliance for a Green Earth) J. Rew D. Bowen SAGE is dedicated to raising, by word, by example, the environmental consciousness of our community. SAGE maintains a number of recycling stations throughout our school, and raises funds to benefit our campus. Science Olympiad Senior Class Sponsor O. Thomas Expose students to comprehensive science competitions. Will compete in annual science competitions and invitationals. R. Skinner S. Barber H. Collins N. Nelson To promote leadership among elected class officers and to represent the senior class. Senior class officers have the goal of planning events and activities of interest to the senior class. Discuss school topics and encourage student involvement. SGA will meet throughout the school year, and assist in student activities. Sophomore Class Sponsor S. Dyer Sophomore class officers make decisions required on behalf of their classmates and school in any befitting capacity. Sophomore officers make certain sophomores are adequately represented in school activities, publications, and publicity. Spanish Club V.Colon/M.Parrish To expose and promote Spanish culture and traditions. Meet at least once a month, participation in homecoming activities. Spanish Honor Society S. Ortega To recognize NGHS students who have maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish for three years. (10​th​ grade or higher) Raise funds to promote a senior student scholarship through fund­raiser and tutor students taking Spanish. Writing Club D. Dombrowski Experiment with different types of writing genres. Work on writing and possibly contribute to Valhalla.
