Succesfull EuroGeographics General Assembly in Athens, Greece

Press release, 26 October 2004 Succesfull EuroGeographics General Assembly in Athens, Greece 111 delegates from 35 countries attended the 4th annual General Assembly of EuroGeographics, held in Athens 17 – 20 October 2004 The event was co­hosted by the Hellenic Mapping and Cadastral Organisation (HEMCO) and the Hellenic Military Geographic Service (HMGS). The major theme of the conference was the EuroGeographics strategy in the context of INSPIRE, national SDIs, market developments and changes being experienced by the National Mapping and Cadastre organisations. All members strongly endorsed the strategy that over the next few years will deliver European reference information and services which will underpin Europe’s SDI (INSPIRE). Projects within the strategy include: the extension of EuroRegionalMap; the implementation of an ISO compliant metadata service; and EuroRoadS – a project, within the much larger EuroSpec programme, that will take the first steps in delivering consistent road information across Europe. New members were also welcomed to the association from the Land Registry of Iceland; the Administration of the Cadastre, Registry and Domains, Belgium; and, the Geodetic Authority of the Republic of Serbia and Montenegro. EuroGeographics now represents 47 of Europe’s National Mapping and Cadastre Agencies from 41 countries. The current President of EuroGeographics, Dietmar Grünreich (Head of BKG, the German Mapping Agency), was re­elected for another year; and Peter Laarakker from the Dutch Kadaster, replaced Kalev Kangur, Estonia, on the Management Board.
