Inception (noun)
Hindi translation: प्रारं भ
Meaning: Starting point of something
Memory Tip: When you enter a hotel or an office building, the first thing you see is a RECEPTION
desk. Similarly, the first step of something is INCEPTION.
Use in Sentence: Since the inception of the company two years ago, the owners have become
multi-millionaires.
Stringent (adjective)
Hindi translation: कठोर
Meaning: Strict
Memory Tip:
1. If the string (stringent) is not tight (strict), the photograph will fall.
2. The stringent (strong principled + gentleman) policeman never took bribes.
Use in Sentence: Stringent rules need to be followed and implemented if we want to maintain
cleanliness in the common kitchen.
Cantankerous (adjective)
Hindi translation: झगडालू
Meaning: Irritable and prone to fighting
Memory Tip: Cant + anker + ous → Can’t + anger + us → Can’t anger us because we are not
cantankerous.
Use in Sentence: Years of war and decades of being a widower had made my grandfather a
cantankerous man, always at odds with his neighbours.
