“MARIO ARMSTRONG’S
STEM (+ E) SUMMER CAMP/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM”
CREDIBLE CURRICULUM, QUALITY TEACHERS, EDUCATIONAL & FUN FOR STUDENTS
curriculum jointly developed by MIT and Mario Armstrong Media, the camp infuses real-world technologies,
interactive hands-on projects and enables students to connect the value of education to their dreams
2009 Summer Camp
The Summer Science and Technology camp, is a free week-long program for
100 students. Curriculum is designed by Mario Armstrong Media, LLC and
experienced curriculum writers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT). The curriculum is designed with national standards and will be held at
Morgan State University Engineering building on campus. The camp will be
specifically measured on “attitudinal change” of attendees towards science,
math, technology and engineering.
The after school program is a planned program for Fall 2009. The after
school program is a feeder for the summer camp and the online social
network. This partnership will form the “Mario Armstrong Dream, Create, Go
Science and Tech Academy”™.
These activities provide for a more intensive opportunity for young people to
experience cutting edge technologies and the principles behind them while
connecting the value of education to their dreams.
The American Institutes for Research presented findings in 2005 of a study
comparing the math skills of students in industrialized nations that showed
that U.S. students in 4th and 8th grade perform consistently below most of
their peers around the world and continue that trend into high school.
The six-month after school program is designed to boost math and science
grades and be specifically measured on “attitudinal change” as well as an
increase in standardized test scores.
Mario Armstrong Media LLC has over ten years of experience in technologybased education and was nationally recognized for a free inner-city program
which taught teens how to create and design their own video games and
reinforced core academics using the gaming development process.

“MARIO ARMSTRONG’S
TM
STEM (+ E) ONLINE SOCIAL NETWORK FOR YOUTH”
a fun, educational website enabling students to interact, meet and communicate
with other students, educators and mentors who are interested in science & technology
What is it?
A fun and educational online social network powered by middle and hi-school aged students who
have an interest in STEM (+e) Science, Technology, Math, Engineering & the Environment.
The purpose is to:
1. Increase young students STEM (+e) literacy
2. Create positive attitudinal change towards STEM (+e) stereotypes, academics and careers
3. Enable young scholars to connect to other STEM (+e) interested students across the globe
4. Connect students to exciting industry role models, mentors and tutors via live video chats
5. Offer educator tools and lesson plans to integrate the website into the classroom
6. Increase the amount of students into the science and technology career pipeline
Our kids are online but going where?
The amount of kids online is staggering and the number of places they can go are limited, especially
for online social activities based around core academics. According to studies done by NPD
Research group,"...Kids ages 2 to 12 are driving more than 25% of online activity."
What history on the ground floor has taught us?
When we bring our events to schools, youth programs or conferences we witness firsthand the
desire from audiences for a formal “leave-behind” after our events. We surveyed these students and
identified that an online network is what they desire. Students need this site to continue their
momentum and appetite for STEM (+e).
What features are on the site?
The site is a learning playscape for students where they can have their own online profile, write a
blog, connect with other kids, create and share their own videos of tech projects, collaborate with
other students across the globe, join international study groups and engage in real-time online video
chats with industry professionals. Other features include security and content moderation, tutoring,
mentoring, an online video show and tools for parents and educators.
Imagine the possibilities:
The website will enable students to connect with thousands of other typically isolated kids in
classrooms across the globe. Think of the possibilities: A child in Baltimore reaching out to a child in
Boston for help on a science project! Or the impact to students meeting and having an online videoconference with Lonnie Johnson a former NASA Aerospace engineer who created the Super-Soaker
water gun and made millions, exposing kids to newer, more relevant role models thus changing or
reinforcing their attitudes for wanting to pursue science and tech-related careers and entrepreneurial
dreams.
Are you on the STEM (+e) campaign?
Mario Armstrong Media, LLC wants to invite kids, parents, teachers, social entrepreneurs and
industry professionals to participate in an opportunity that will connect thousands of isolated kids
into a social network niche that has never been designed before. Let’s Dream, Create & Go!
