From the Mile High City head north west along the Peak to Peak Scenic
and Historic Byway to Estes Park. From here you can explore Rocky
Mountain National Park. Head south for a magnificent drive to Glenwood
Springs, past Colorado’s best known ski resorts, continue south to
Gunnison along the Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway. Gunnison is an old
mining town at heart.
South-east from Gunnison is Alamosa near to the Great Sand Dune
National Park, a real curiosity in a land of 14,000 ft peaks. Head back North
East through old gold towns to Manitou Springs, from here you can catch
the train to the top of Pikes Peak the most renowned of Colorado’s 25
fourteeners, or explore The Garden of the Gods a wonderful ‘city’ park
close by in Colorado Springs. Denver International Airport is about a two
hour drive for your return or onward flight.
