Review the definition of matter.
Review the physical properties of matter
and how we use our senses to describe
them.
Discuss how certain properties help us to
sort matter into categories or states of
matter.

It’s what the world is made of.
What is matter?
•Everything in our
universe is made of
matter.
•All matter takes up space
and has weight.
•There are 3 basic states
of matter: solid, liquid,
gas

Liquids take the
shape of their
container.
Liquids have

Gases spread out to
fill the entire space
given.
Gases have weight.
Gases take up
space.
