New Compatriot Approved by National SAR. We are excited to welcome Gene Le Noue as our newest Compatriot. Gene’s Patriot is Rev. Joseph Louis Cheuvront who was born in Strasbourg Alsace France 1 Feb 1757 and died 12 Aug 1832 in what is now known as Good Hope, West Virginia. He came to the Virginia from London at about age 15 and was bound to Moses Ellsworth who became his future father-in-law. During the Revolutionary War it is found that Joseph served the Fort Hinkle Militia in 1775 under Capt. John Skidmore. Joseph Cheuvront was called out with the VA Militia in April, 1780 when requisition was made on the state of Virginia for 300 men in the American Army of the Revolution. He served until, and was present at, the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, VA, on Oct. 1781." We’ll save the rest of his story for Gene to share with us upon his induction. President Jan Huber believes this is the first foreign-born Patriot we’ve had in the Chapter.
