K-4 Connection Partners in Education December-January 2015-2016 From the Principal’s Desk Happy Holidays Swather Families! Hesston Elementary students worked hard the last few days of 2015. Several Holiday traditions will continue during the month of December. Santa will visit all classrooms on December 18. Students and staff will participate in an All School Singing Around the Christmas Tree on the 18th at 2:15. We will end the day with Winter parties from 2:40-3:00. Thanks to the H.El.P organization for their continued support during many of the holiday celebrations. Students and Mrs. Funk worked hard preparing for the Winter Concert. Their hard work and efforts paid off with a show that rocked the house. Great job students! A special thank you to all of the staff, parents, and community members who contributed to this special event. Please take a moment to check out the concert photos on the school website under the parent connect tab and we thank Jennifer Zaccagni for sharing her photography talents with the elementary. Thank you to all of our dads and father figures for continuing to spend a day with your child(ren) volunteering at school. Our WatchDOG Wall of Fame continues to grow with photos of children and dads. If you have not signed up for second semester now is your chance. If your child has to cross Amos Street to get to the front of the school, an adult must assist them cross the street. The alley to the west of the school is reserved for buses only throughout the school day. It is not to be used as a drop off or pick up point for students. Student safety is a priority, so please follow these procedures in order to help keep everyone safe. Please help the drop off/ pick up line move efficiently by not leaving your vehicle unattended. If you need to leave your car, you will need to park in the lot or street. Keep up with us on Twitter. Join us at #HESSwathers to see activities and classroom happenings. Thank you to all our parents and families for your continued support. It is has been a privilege to work with your child(ren). If you have questions or concerns, please contact me or your child’s teacher. Best wishes this holiday season, may it be filled with peace and joy! Alisa Krehbiel From the Office You will notice that there are only updates from Team K, Team II and Music in this K-4. Teams will take turns in the K-4 newsletter to be in the spotlight to share what they have been doing in the classroom. This will vary from Team to Team throughout the course of the school year. Page 3 Team K K-4 Connection Miss Kristin Unruh Mrs. Lacey Worceter Mrs. DeDee Lehman Can you believe it is December already? What an exciting month we have had! We have been talking about the different kinds of gifts we can give each other, gifts that money can’t buy. The students wrote a special note to each student in our classroom. Then each student had a chance to hear what the other children in their classroom had to say about them. We have learned that listening is an important gift that we can give, too. Another gift that we celebrated this month was the gift of music. What a joy to hear the children perform in the all school music concert! They did such an amazing job and looked so handsome and pretty all dressed up! This month, we had the opportunity to explore the other kindergarten classrooms and do an activity in each room to celebrate the season. It was so neat getting to spend time with each other and explore and try out new classrooms and holiday activities. Rosie Rabbit added to the excitement this month. She set up her fancy restaurant and taught us about her favorite letter, R, and words that start with the ‘r’ sound. We also rhymed and rang bells to the beat of how many syllables were in Christmas words. One thing we really enjoyed was ordering food at the restaurant that started with the letter R like rectangular red jello, raisins and red hots. We ate on tables set with red and white checkered table cloths and candles. It was such an exciting and festive time! We were able to pay for our meals by counting out pennies and nickels at Benjamin Bunny’s bank. We had the opportunity to go caroling out in the community at both the Villa and Hickory Homes this month as well. We enjoyed spending the last school day of the semester in our PJs by watching The Polar Express, singing around the Christmas tree, and attending our winter parties. Our wish for you is that you will enjoy a blessed holiday season with your family. Blessings to all! K-4 Connection Music Mrs. Dianna Funk We hope you enjoyed the Hesston Elementary Music Concert: A Rock N’ Roll Christmas. The Kindergarten through Fourth Grade Students, as well as several community members took the audience through a musical journey of Christmas and Rock N’ Roll. The theme for the evening once again was Community . Music . Tradition. The love for music is universal and timeless. It knows no social or cultural boundaries. Music bridges generation and builds community. Through music, people influence, motivate and inspire others. Thank you to all of the children, HES staff and community members who contributed to the success of the Winter Concert. Second graders are adventuring to Italy, Germany, Spain and many more exciting places! We are learning about different cultures and traditions. It has been so fun sharing our own holiday traditions with each other. Look for a suitcase to be sent home with special souvenirs from each country. We hope you have a safe and happy holiday season. Looking forward to seeing your children back in January! Page 7 K-4 Connection Hesston Elementary Parents = H.El.P.
