Panasonic is introducing a new communication camera LUMIX DMC-CM1 featuring high picture
quality that even rivals to DSLRs at the 2014 Photokina (to be held in Cologne, Germany during 16-21th
of September, 2014). The stylish profile of the camera is stunningly slim enough to fit in a pocket.
Situations surrounding imaging market is dramatically changing and the largest-ever number of
people are posting photo/video to a variety of cloud services and enjoying visual communication.
Panasonic is a pioneer of integrating Wi-Fi communication function in digital still camera to meet the
needs of cloud-computing era. By further strengthening the mobile communication function with high
speed LTE (Long Term Evolution), Panasonic is now newly proposing a “communication camera” – that
enables anyone to post and share the high quality photo/video anywhere anytime.
The LUMIX DMC-CM1 adopts 1-inch large 20.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor
for high-precision, high resolution image. The light receiving area of each pixel is
outstandingly large, which enables high sensitivity image recording while achieving wide
dynamic range. Even a beautiful bokeh can be produced thanks to the large sensor for more
artistic expression in photography.
In addition, the F2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT 28mm (35mm camera equiv.) fixed
focal length high resolution lens is equipped. It also suppresses distortion, ghosting and
flaring effectively. The adoption of multi-blade aperture diaphragm realizes high
descriptiveness in combination with the large sensor. Comprising of 6 elements in 5 groups,
the lens unit with retractable structure helps downsizing of the camera especiall y in depth
even it incorporates 1-inch large sensor.
On the other hand, manual operation is well-supported on DMC-CM1. Notably, the control ring on
the lens barrel allows controls over aperture, shutter speed, selection of Creative Control filter lets uses
enjoy camera operation as they do with the interchangeable lens to inspire the creativity. Precision
focusing is available with MF assist or Focus Peaking function while viewing the live image. For the rear
monitor, 4.7-inch large 6220k-dot ultra high resolution display with 473 dpi is adopted to offer stunningly
high visibility in both recording and playing back images. To further enhance the creative freedom, the
DMC-CM1 complies with RAW image recording.
In addition to 1920x1080 full HD video recording (30p), the DMC-CM1 is capable of3840 x 2160 4K
video recording (15p), which features 4x higher resolution than conventional full HD. To take advantage of
this 4K video recording capability, special application “4K Pre-Burst” and “4K PhotoCapture” are newly
developed and installed on DMC-CM1. The “4K Pre-Burst” lets users capture the fleeting photo
opportunity of such as fast-moving children or pets clearly. By automatically recording approx. 45 frames
right before/after the shutter release, users can choose the best picture to save. On the other hand, the
Panasonic Corporation 2014
“4K PhotoCapture” allows cropping a still picture out of the recorded 4K video. With these applications,
users can easily save the picture of spur-of-the moment in 8-megapixel equivalent high resolution.
Users can view, and retouch the imageries on the 4.7-inch large, 6,220K-dot/473 dpi full HD rear
monitor after shooting. At the same time, the image data is automatically saved on GoogleDriveTM, which
free users from worries about the data capacity of the recording media. The high speed LTE
communication and Swipe and Share function make it possible to upload the image data to the
designated social media service with a single flick even in outdoors or in transit.
Complying with AndroidTM v4.4 (KitKat) and due to be updated to v5.0 (Lollypop) in May, users can
install a variety of application to the DMC-CM1. The DMC-CM1 is SIM(Subscriber Identity Module)
lock-free to accept any UIM (User Identity Module).
The sales area and the on-sale date will be announced later. Panasonic is committed to pursue the
new value including communication to further elevate the customers’ satisfaction.
