Year 5 Ancient Greek Day
Today the Year 5 children had a special day learning all about the Ancient Greeks. They came to school
wearing a selection of chitons, himations, golden laurel wreaths and jewellery, and took part in dancing, food
tasting, designing vases and learning all about the Greek Alphabet. The children had a fantastic time, and we
are very grateful to Mrs Hallett, Mrs Barnsley, Mrs Pini, and Mrs Naveiro for organising such a wonderful day.

Drama Workshop
Reception, Year 1, 2 & 3 took part in
a drama workshop this week with
Perform Drama on Wednesday 28th
September.
The children had a wonderfully
energetic time exploring the theme of
Around The World. The children
used drama, dance and singing to help
develop their confidence,
concentration and social skills.
All of our teachers were delighted
with the enthusiasm of the children,
and were very pleased with how well
they participated in the workshops.
Grandparents’ Week
This week, along with other schools in the parishes within the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton, St Joseph’s
School celebrated our grandparents. The children took part in liturgies in thanksgiving for our grandparents and
said special prayers for the grandparents who are no longer with us.

Rosary Lunchtime Club
We would like to invite the KS2 children to join us for a lunchtime rosary club that
will be running for the month of October in school. We will meet in Miss Francis’
classroom at 1.00pm on Wednesdays 5th, 12th & 19th October, as this is a special month
dedicated to Our Lady.
Please can the children bring their rosaries, if they have one, but if not then we will
have some spare for them to borrow or they can buy one from us for 50p (any monies
will go to Mother’s Village Orphanage in Medjugorje). These have been very popular
in the past and the children are welcome to buy them as gifts for friends or family too.
Mrs Barnes visited the orphanage during the summer holidays and presented the
donation from the rosaries sold in May and also took along some games, toys and
clothes. The children were very happy to see her.
Are You a Keen Gardner?
We would like to invite parents or grandparents to help out with our raised beds if they have a few hours to spare.
Our raised beds take a great deal of commitment. We would really value having a regular team of people, who
would be willing to help prepare them for the year ahead. The children enjoy gardening and would really
appreciate helping out in a gardening club if you could offer your time one lunchtime. You may of course be
happier to simply come along once a week or so to tend to the beds alone. We would welcome any help you
would like to offer. Please contact Mrs Hallett, the School Office or your child's class teacher if you are able to
help out in any way. Many thanks for your support.
Harvest Day
Next Friday the whole school will be celebrating Harvest Day and, through CAFOD, learning more about the
issues of injustice in the global food system. We will also take action by collecting food products and sending
them to local food banks to be shared among those in need within our community. We would like each child to
bring in a non-perishable food item on Friday 7th October to show their support for this cause. During the day
each class will present their items at the harvest display in the hall. Please ensure that all items are in date.
Suggested Items:
Canned fish & meat, Cereal, Pasta, Meals in a tin, Rice, Pasta sauces, Canned fruit & vegetables,
Canned & dry soups, Jar baby food, Meal supplement, Baby formula, UHT Milk (carton), Bottles,
Biscuits, Tea & coffee, Fruit squash
Find out more about this cause on the CAFOD website. http://www.cafod.org.uk/Education/Primaryschools/Harvest-Fast-Day
