The annotated work samples support teachers:
 when reporting against the achievement standard
 when explaining differences between one student’s achievements and another’s
 in implementing internal moderation practices.
JUDGING STANDARDS
The annotations include black text which reflect an assessment pointer relevant to the
task and/or coloured text which is the task-specific evidence.
YEAR PRE-PRIMARY: SCIENCE
WORK SAMPLE REFLECTING HIGH ACHIEVEMENT
SUMMARY OF TASK:
Growth of plants
Prior to this task, the children discussed what plants need to survive. In the next lesson, each child was given a bean
seed and equipment to grow his or her own bean plant. The children watered their beans and watched them grow. The
school vegetable garden was also explored.
In this task, each student drew the beanstalk from the story Jack and the Beanstalk and identified the different features
of a bean plant, using labels provided by their teacher. In reviewing their completed drawings, students also described
the things that plants need in order to grow. The teacher scribed these answers.
