UNION PACIFIC IN NEBRASKA Bailey Yard in North Platte also is the world’s largest freight classification yard. It covers 2,850 acres and incorporates more than 300 miles of track. Approximately 10,000 rail cars are handled within the facility. Of those, almost 3,000 are sorted daily in the yard’s eastward and westward yards. Union Pacific’s capital investment in Nebraska between 2012 and 2016 was more than $1.4 billion.
