Have you got a red thumb?

Have you got
a red thumb?
MOBILE PHONES
the only way is off
Don’t use your mobile
phone when driving
What is My Red Thumb?
My Red Thumb wants drivers to stop using their mobile phones and
concentrate fully on driving.
It’s illegal to drive using hand-held phones or similar devices
and the rules are the same if you’re stopped at traffic lights or
queuing in traffic.
Did you know that if you are involved in a car crash your phone may
be checked even if you did not cause the collision? You can even be
prosecuted for driving badly while using hands free.
If you use a phone at the wheel research shows you ‘Are four
times more likely to crash, injuring or killing yourself and/
or other people’.
Drivers who use mobile phones while driving are much less aware of
what is happening on the road and often fail to see road signs, maintain
road position and steady speed. They also react more slowly and take
longer to brake.
Before you start your journey:
Turn off your phone or put it on silent.
Put your phone out of reach where you will not be tempted to use it.
On your journey:
If your phone rings ignore it or ask a passenger to take the call for you.
If you need to make a call first find a sensible place to stop and turn off
your engine.
Share the My Red Thumb message and help break bad habits
Paint your thumb red - people will ask you about it and you can tell
them about the My Red Thumb campaign and
encourage other drivers to change their behaviour
Take a Thumb Selfie - photograph your red thumb – but not while driving
and when it’s safe to do so and share it to….
