“An earthquake is caused by a sudden slip on a fault, much like
what happens when you snap your fingers. Before the snap, you
push your fingers together and sideways. Because you are
pushing them together, friction keeps them from moving to the
side. When you push sideways hard enough to overcome this
friction, your fingers move suddenly, releasing energy in the form
of sound waves that set the air vibrating and travel from your hand
to your ear, where you hear the snap”. (Quote from the southern California

The risk of earthquakes might not immediately spring to mind for
residents of our area (central Canada), but it is actually one of
several regions of the country prone to earth shaking. According
to Natural Resources Canada, approximately 450 earthquakes
occur in eastern Canada annually. Luckily, only a small fraction of
these occurrences exceed a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale”.
It shows how susceptible this area is to seismic activity and should
hopefully serve as a not-to-gentle reminder that more awareness
of the exposure to earthquake risk needs to be taken a little more

out for some summer fun.
Damage which results from snowslide, landslide, volcanic eruption
and other earth movements occurring at the same time and as a
direct result from an earthquake are NOT automatically covered
under the standard property policy. Coverage for this type of
damage must be added by endorsement which would involve an
additional premium charge. It is important to recognize that this
risk does exist in our geographical area and something that may
have an impact on your property.

The First Annual Ostic Ball Hockey Tournament !!

… was held on Saturday, June 8 at the Salem outdoor ball hockey rink
owned and operated by Jim Renahan.
The weather cooperated throughout the day. We had a total of four teams
participate in this year’s charity event. All of the proceeds raised through the
tournament was donated to the Power Of Play program to help redevelop the
Elora park. Through the participation of all the athletes, we were able to
donate $1000 towards the Power Of Play.
The championship game was a battle between the Machin Green Machine
and the Wilkins Red Warriors. There had to be a winner and ultimately the
Green Machine powered their way to victory.
Thank you to all of the players that participated and the fans that came out to
support their team. It was a fun day for a very worthwhile cause.
Luxury Vehicle Theft
It seems car thieves are starting to develop a taste for the luxury car market! Over a
three year period; 4384 luxury class vehicles were stolen across the US according to
the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Almost 49% of the stolen vehicles were compact
luxury models. Mid-sized models were next followed by the very high-end “premium”
luxury thefts.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class, and S-Class were all among the top 10
