TRENTON HIGH SCHOOL Advanced Lifetime Sports Advanced Lifetime Sports is designed to assist students in developing skills and game strategies to participate in sport and leisure activities. The curriculum meets the standards and benchmarks identified in the Michigan Merit Curriculum. Activities may include but not limited to volleyball, badminton, tennis, table tennis, basketball, eclipse ball, swimming, bowling and golf. Students will have the opportunity to assess their general physical fitness. Maintenance of their health related physical fitness will be provided with activities to improve cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance and muscular flexibility. Students will exemplify behaviors in each of the personal/social character traits of responsibility, best effort, cooperation, respect, honesty, fairness, compassion in a dynamic setting. Students may participate in off-campus activities such as Westfield bike path, Kennedy ice rink, golf driving range and/or bowling alley. A fee payable at the time of the off campus activity is required for some activities. Students are expected to be involved in these activities. CLOTHING – Students will be expected to change clothes for class every day. Clothing worn to school will not be accepted as proper attire for class. You must have separate gym clothes: loose fitting t-shirts (no open sides), shorts of an appropriate length (fingertip) or sweatpants, etc. Attire must be in accordance with school policy and worn in an appropriate manner (no boxers, no midriff, no behinds or cleavage should be revealed or tight fitting attire.) Students need to have clothes appropriate for outdoors and indoors. A supportive tennis shoe is required and must be tied. Slip-on shoes are not allowed. No jewelry is to be worn. No GUM is allowed. Long hair must be tied back. MEDICAL – any student not participating in class for more than one day for a medical reason must have a note from a doctor. The doctor's note should indicate what activities the student is permitted to participate in or specify the limitations. The doctor's note must be submitted within 3 school days. Students with a medical excuse will be required to complete daily written work in the media center. GRADING – Each student is awarded 100 points. Their job is to maintain those points. Five points are lost by not dressing for class. Not participating in class, lack of effort, poor attitude/behavior is a loss of 2 or 3 points. Not participating in water activities may result in a loss of 10 points. Seven or more absences results in a withdrawal. Six no dresses results in a failing grade. Quizzes may be given. A final exam and/or a cumulative activity will be given. The following grading scale will be used: Loss of 0-10 points = A Loss of 11-16 points = B Loss of 17-24 points = C Loss of 25 – 29 points = D Loss of 30 points and more = E 100-90 89-84 83-76 75-71 70-0 LOCKER ROOM & HALLWAYS All personal items should be labeled and locked. Valuables, including money and jewelry should be LOCKED in a locker. No BEVERAGE containers or FOOD is allowed in the locker rooms or hallways per school policy. Cell phone/camera usage is not permitted in the locker rooms or hallways per school policy. NO DRESS POLICY - The following is the Trenton High School NO DRESS policy: 1. A verbal warning will be given to the student by the teacher after the first and second no dress. 2. After three (3) NO DRESSES a written notice will be mailed to the parent or guardian. If any questions arise, please contact the teacher. 3. After four (4) NO DRESSES the student will be referred to the assistant principal for disciplinary actions. BEHAVIOR POLICY - To provide ALL students with a positive environment and a climate that is productive, students are expected to behave in the manner outlined below: FOLLOW instructions first time given KEEP HANDS, FEET AND OR OBJECTS TO YOURSELF BE SEATED and on time for attendance COMPLETE warm up activities as directed LISTEN without interruption to directions for assigned activities COMPLETE written work when assigned (including work when assigned to in-school suspension) ACT in a sportsmanlike manner during all games NO foul language at any time NO throwing of any equipment FOLLOW the rules of safety at all times ACTIVELY participate in assignment for the day The consequences for not adhering to the behavior policy are as follows: First Warning – time out from activity and loss of 2 points and possible detention Second Warning in same day – loss of 5 points and possible detention Second Warning within one week – time out from activity and loss of 2 points and possible detention Third Warning within one week – Discipline Referral sent to Asst. Principal requesting in-school suspension. After one week – repeat above. If this pattern continues after two weeks an out of school suspension will be recommended.
