An Introduction to Statistics:
Measures of Central Tendancy
Measures of Central Tendancy tell you about the
center of your data.
• They tell you what's in the middle,
• how often things appear,
• and what you might expect to see in the future.
Mean - is the average of a group of numbers, which
we get by adding all the numbers together and
dividing by how many numbers we had.
Let's say that these are the first 11 quiz scores
out of 30 points that you earned last year.
What was the mean quiz score?
The median of a group of numbers is the middle
number when the numbers are written in order. If you
have an even set of numbers, then there is no middle
and you must take the mean of the middle two
numbers.
What was your median quiz score?
