DETERMINE OVULATION TIMING — WITNESS LH provides a precise way to determine ovulation timing.1
The optimal time to breed is realized through determination of the LH surge. The canine LH surge usually occurs
between days three and twelve after observable signs of heat (proestral bleeding) and lasts approximately 24
hours. Ovulation occurs two days after LH surge. The ova then require another two to three days to mature to the
point they can support fertilization (see Figure 1).
The canine fertile period falls between days four and seven after the canine LH surge, with the most fertile days
being five and six (the day of the LH surge is counted as Day 0).
