ASE Awards 2015 Guidelines
Eligibility:
Editors entering the ASE Awards must be Full Financial Members of the
Australian Screen Editors Guild. Student and Associate Members may not
enter. New applications for Full Membership (or Full Membership renewals)
may accompany an ASE Awards entry.
All entries must have had their first public screening, broadcast or DVD/online
release between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015.
Categories:
Feature Film
A dramatised story of at least 60 minutes in duration. Category may also
include animated features. Must have had a theatrical or DVD release. Entries
to be submitted on DVD.
Short Film
Not over 40 minutes in duration. Category may also include animated short
films. Entries must have had a public screening (theatre, festival, television or
online). Entries to be submitted ONLINE.
Documentary Feature
A non-fiction film or television program of at least 60 minutes in duration. Can
be part of a series. Must have had a theatrical, television or DVD release.
Entries to be submitted on DVD.
Documentary Short Form
A non-fiction film or television program of under 60 minutes in duration. This
can be an episode from a series. Not including factual, reality, lifestyle or
magazine programs (see below). For full programs (segments cannot be
entered). Entries to be submitted on DVD.
Television Drama
May be a single episode from a television series, mini series, or a one-off
telemovie. Entries to be submitted on DVD.
Television Comedy (*Trial Category)
A scripted situation or sketch comedy series made for television. Minimum
length is 20min. Entries to be submitted on DVD.

* Due to a small number of entries last year, this category remains on trial and
will only run if we have 4 valid entries. If we do not run the category this year,
all submitted entries will be returned with a full refund.
Television Factual
A factual, lifestyle, magazine or light entertainment program. For full episodes;
segments cannot be entered. Entries to be submitted on DVD.
Reality Television (*Trial Category)
A substantially non-scripted Television Program which documents participants
being following in a particular environment or format. For full episodes;
segments cannot be entered. Entries to be submitted on DVD.
* This is a trial category and will only run if we have 4 valid entries. If we do
not run the category this year, all submitted entries will be returned with a full
refund.
Television Current Affairs (*Trial Category)
A Current Affairs program or segment of at least 5 minutes duration broadcast
as part of a regular Current Affairs television series. Not including
Documentary series, factual or reality programs. Entries to be submitted on
DVD.
* This is a trial category and will only run if we have 4 valid entries. If we do
not run the category this year, all submitted entries will be returned with a full
refund.
Commercial
Must have had a theatrical, television or online release. Entries to be
submitted ONLINE.
Music Video
Video clips for a band or singer, usually 2 – 6 minutes. Entries must have had
a television or online screening. Entries to be submitted ONLINE.
Open Content
For content that is not covered in the other categories. We are looking for high
quality editing no matter what the format. This may be online content,
animation, webisodes, trailers, title sequences or perhaps a format we haven’t
seen yet. Must be under 10 minutes. Entries to be submitted ONLINE.

Guidelines:
Co-Editors may submit. Each Editor must be a Full Financial Member of the
ASE. In the case that a winning entry has more than one Editor, only one
trophy will be awarded to that entry. Additional trophies may be purchased
through the ASE (at of cost of $450 each + GST).
You may only submit once per category. However, if you have been included
as part of a Co-Entry you are still able to enter one other production into the
same category.
Entries will only be accepted from the principal Editor or Editors, that is, the
person or persons whom the Producer has accorded the official, primary
credit of “Editor”. In the event that an entry contains no on-screen credits,
written or verbal verification by the Production Company of the role of the
entrant will be required.
The judging panels’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered
into. The ASE reserves the right to cancel a category and refund entrant if
there are not enough entries in any category.
Entries are to be submitted on DVD (Standard Def PAL) only for the
categories –
Feature Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Shortform, Television
Drama, Television Comedy, Television Factual, Reality Television and
Television Current Affairs.
It is the responsibility of the entrant to provide DVDs that are playable on a
household DVD player. DVDs will be returned upon request (include request
with entry). 5 DVDs are required.
Entries are to be submitted ONLINE only for the categories –
Commercial, Music Video, Short Film and Open Content.
Please provide the weblink to your film on You Tube, Vimeo or any other
website. Provide password if required.
Submission Deadlines:
DVD ENTRIES - must be postmarked by September 4th 2015.
ONLINE ENTRIES - must be received by September 4th 2015.
INTERNATIONAL ENTRIES – if entering by DVD your entry must be
received by September 4th 2015. It is your responsibility to make sure
enough time has been left for the entry to arrive in Australia.
