National History Day Contest
HISTORY DAY
Welcome to National History Day!
What is the National History Day Contest, you ask? Each year more than half a million students just
like you participate. You will choose a historical topic related to the annual theme, and then conduct
primary and secondary research. You will look through libraries, archives and museums, conduct oral
history interviews, and visit historic sites. After you have analyzed and interpreted your sources, and
have drawn a conclusion about the significance of your topic, you will then be able to present your
work in one of five ways: as a paper, an exhibit, a performance, a documentary, or a web site.
In the spring, you may enter your work into local NHD contests where it will be judged by professional
educators and historians. If your work is chosen as one of the best, you will move on to your state's
NHD contest. As a winner at your state NHD contest, you will be eligible to attend the Kenneth E.
Behring National History Day Contest at the University of Maryland at College Park in June. This is
where the best National History Day projects from across the United States, American Samoa, Guam,
International Schools and Department of Defense Schools In Europe all meet and compete.
Congratulations on embarking on your National History Day journey! It is sure to be a memorable one.
You never know what information you might find, or whom you may get to meet. And the skills you
will learn along the way will last a lifetime.
The 2015 Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest will be held June 14 - 18.

FUND RAISING
Students sold lanyards, lollipops, and school spirit items at the homecoming game. In the near future they will
be selling pizza during lunch hours of midterm week and flowers during Valentine's week.
Through these efforts. the club was able to pay for the transportation for each of the members. This reduced the
cost of the trip by $75 for each student. The overall cost of the trip is $585 for each student, resulting in an
increase of only $10 per student from last year's trip.
In the past, Hauppauge DECA has allowed parents who have demonstrated a need to payoff the registration fee
in installments. This is done on a limited basis however due to the fact that New York DECA requires total
payment up-front.
RISK OF FINANCIAL LOSS
In the event that the terror alert is elevated, students may lose some or all of the cost of the trip. This
information is included on the Parental Consent form which all parents must sign.
New York DECA's cancellation policy is as follows: Any cancellation prior to February lSI will result
in a cancellation fee of $ 100 and any cancellation after February I SI will result in a forfeiture of all
payments. Regardless of date, any cancellation will result in the students being responsible for
reimbursing DECA for the cost of transportation.
