From the East
Greetings from the East,
April was a very busy month for us. We have a new EA,
assembled bikes for the Bikes for Books program, have had
a presentation of the bikes, honored two brethren with their
50-year medals, had a great fellowship night and from that,
we have received 3 applications. This month will also be
very busy for us and we need your help! May 20th is our
10th anniversary of the charity motorcycle ride. We need as
much help as possible for this it is our lodges biggest
event. The Temple Corp has two raffles underway a
Masonic Henry rifle and a John Deere lawn tractor please
help them in selling these tickets to support Temple Corp
operations.
I have not seen many of you in a long time and I wish that I
could see you back in the lodge. If the stated are not your
thing we have many many things going on that we need
help with. Many hands make light work.
May 22nd will be our inspection. It will be a fellowcraft
degree and our new brother saw a very low attendance at
his 1st degree I do hope many of you can come to this and
show support of the lodge and meet our new brother. I had
previously thought of having a past masters night for this
degree but a past masters night for his master mason
degree would be an amazing degree for him. This is being
planned for June and many past masters will be a part of it.
If you are a past master and have not yet gotten and email
from me or have not responded to my email please do as
soon as possible it would be great to have all the chairs
filled with past masters.
I am sad that I do have to report the passing of our Tyler
and Head Chef of our 2nd Saturday breakfast, Bro. Anthony
Doria. He will be greatly missed. On March 13th our 2nd
Saturday breakfast will be free, in his honor. Please come
and join us pay your respects to Bro. Doria
Bro. Minor (Keith) Jones received his 50 year Medal and
Pin with the assistance of his son Chad Jones.
Bro. Richard (Deke) Stevens received his 50 year Medal
and Pin with the assistance of his nephew Wor Stephen
Lappierre.

Quote of the Month
Brethren,
Since our trestleboard is so late this month we can happily
report that the York Lodge Bikes for Books program is
again completed. We received, built and awarded 67
bicycles to two local schools, and recipients from both
York and Arundel programs participated in the
“Bro Senior Engineer are all present bicycles?”
“We are Worshipful”
Something to Ponder
“In space no one can hear you scream,
but in an empty Lodge nothing happens.”
Kennebunk May Day Parade.
In cooperation with Arundel, Ocean and Yorkshire Lodges
we now have this program in 6 elementary schools and this
year will have awarded a total of 186 bicycles. This
program has received many accolades from the
community, school administration, teachers, parents, and
of course the students. With luck and some judicious
planning we hope to expand into other lodges and schools.
This program is made possible thru the success of our
Masonic Youth Charities Run hosted by Bentley’s Saloon
and over thirty other sponsors and the Widows Sons. This
is the 10th year of this project and we owe a sincere thank
you to its founders Steve and Paul Micheals.
Be safe and well Brethren,
Dan Fink,
Senior Warden

A Thought…
In Political Science, we talk about social/cultural cleavages.
There are two basic types. Those which reinforce current
beliefs and help promote the division of our culture into
different groups, and those which cut across the divides
and can unite the similar elements across the diverse
groups.
The reinforcing cleavages support those divides in
society which keep us apart and help feed the fragmenting
and dividing antagonisms which polarize and can help
drive social conflict. They do this by creating a “us” vs.
“them” scenario.
Our organization illustrates the second type of
cleavage. It appeals to similar values across differing
social groups. As such we are a uniting force against
those antagonisms which divide our society.
This is a crucial function for several reasons. For
example, by uniting, it promotes social stability which,
among other things, provides probably the most
supportive environment for individual economic growth
and a chance for most people to pursue their own dreams.
Further, by uniting, it helps lessen the destructive forces of
conflict which do not create and seek to destroy society.
These cultural forces, of uniting and dividing, have
been constantly in conflict throughout time. With the
balance continually moving between one side and another.
This is a historical constant.
If we value our personal and cultural heritage, as our
organizational fore bearers have done, we need to continue
the fight - to be involved in whatever way possible – to
promote the forces of uniting. Generally speaking it is the
best way we can fulfil our organizational goals (which we
have sworn to do) and serve our society as those goals
commit us to do.
Thank you.
Bro Donald Beane,
Historian
Remember we took an obligation to answer all due signs
and summons. Our trestleboard contains many notices or
reminders of the events of the lodge. Some may be
optional but others are not. Some of us cannot attend our
monthly stated communication, although this is where the
business of the lodge is conducted. But the special
meetings, Inspection, Degrees, Memorials, etc. should not
be considered optional. Understandably there are times
when attendance, even at these important functions, is not
possible.
But that should be the exception and not the rule.
I have often heard “the stated meetings are a drag”. Well
so is sitting down and doing your taxes. But you do have
that obligation. Although we won’t fine you or throw you in
jail like the IRS, when we don’t fulfill our masonic obligation
we do a disservice to our Lodge, our Brothers, Masonry and
ourselves.
At a recent EA degree we barely had enough members
present to do the degree. We were presenting this
candidate with his first view of masonry and the face was
missing.
I often hear “How do we get our Brothers back to the
Lodge”? and the usual answer is “I don’t know”.
Well I don’t.
But you do.
Reflect and decide.
