5th Annual California Passenger Rail Summit
2017
TUESDAY, APRIL 18, 2017
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19, 2017
April 18, 2017
On behalf of the Host Committee we welcome you to the 2017 California Passenger Rail Summit!
Over the next two days, you can look forward to participating in thought-provoking panel discussions and
learning about innovative resources and technology, as well as developing professional connections with
colleagues in the passenger rail industry.
Since our first summit, we can truly see that passenger rail services are starting to bear the fruit of the harvest
thanks to prior investments. Collectively, California agencies are introducting new locomotives into revenue
service, constructing new stations, and extending train service in conjunction with added frequencies to meet
growing demand.
This year’s summit will provide a platform for you to:

Exchange best practices throughout our network of peers in the industry

Catalyze job creation and economic growth

Invest in sustainable resources to promote healthy communities
During the conference, you will hear from officials at the California State Transportation Agency, California
High-Speed Rail Authority, and passenger rail providers who are at the forefront to deliver high quality
passenger rail service to Californians.
Thank you for being a part of this year’s summit!

Technical Tours
Siemens Rolling Stock Manufacturing Facility
Registered attendees will take a shuttle from the Sacramento County Administration Building, departing
at 1pm on I Street, to the Siemens facility. Be sure to bring your safety shoes and please be punctual. Late
arrivals cannot be accommodated. Shuttle service will be provided to bring you back in time for the start
of the Summit at 4pm.
Established in the 1980s, Siemens manufactures a large variety of rolling stock vehicles at its
Sacramento plant. From light rail vehicles, streetcars, single-level coaches to electric and dieselelectric locomotives. The plant includes car shell and truck production, subassembly, final assembly,
commissioning and testing. Currently in production are streetcars for San Francisco, light rail vehicles for
Calgary, complete intercity train sets for the Florida Brightline service and diesel-electric locomotives for
intercity passenger rail services in California, the Pacific Northwest, and Midwest states. (Please note that
for confidentiality and competitive reasons, rolling stock manufacturers will not be able to participate in
the Siemens Sacramento factory tour.)
Sacramento Valley Station
Registered attendees will convene at the Sacramento County Administration Building and walk a short
distance to the Sacramento Valley Station.
The tour of the Sacramento Valley Station will provide an overview of the three phases of
improvements completed and planned for the site. The tour will begin with the completed $70-million
Phase 1 Track Relocation and New Passenger Platforms and the northern edge of the site. The Phase 2
Restoration of the historic station will focus on the rehabilitation of the station programmatically, historically,
and the sustainable design practices in the design. The tour will include the Main Waiting Room restoration,
provisions for ground floor retail in the former baggage area, second floor lease area, and the third floor
roof deck. From the roof deck, a brief overview of the Phase 3 Site Master Plan, now in progress, will be
summarized and a Q/A session will conclude the tour.
California State Railroad Museum
Visit the crown jewel of railroad history and take in the sights at the California State Railroad Museum on a
self-guided tour of the facility, which is a short walk from the Sacramento County Administration Building.
Experience the feats of engineering and ingenuity that have kept the Golden State connected for nearly
200 years – from immaculately restored engines and cars to exciting events and exhibits that bring the
railroad to life. Exhibits cover a wide range of topics, from social issues to displays of railroad artwork
intended to promote California and the West as a tourism destination.
