RePacking the Replicator 2 for Return, Repair or Exchange

RePacking the Replicator 2 for Return, Repair or Exchange
These are instructions for packaging your Replicator 2 to be sent back to MakerBot for returns,
repairs or exchanges. Do not send your Replicator 2 back to MakerBot unless a return, repair or
exchange has been authorized. Returns without a Return Merchandise Authorization
(RMA) Number will not be accepted.
Please pay careful attention to these instructions and follow them as closely as possible. If you
do not pack your Replicator 2 as described here, we cannot guarantee its safety and we will not
be held responsible for any damage to your Replicator 2 during transit.
1. Remove the Extruder
1a. Grasp the back of the build platform firmly and push the platform to the bottom of the bot.
1b. Gently pull the active cooling duct away from the extruder nozzle and allow it to hang.
1c. Use the 2.5 mm hex wrench that came with your Replicator 2 to unscrew the two bolts
holding the extruder to the extruder carriage. One bolt is at the left side of the extruder carriage
and the other is at the right.
1d. Wrap the extruder in bubble wrap or newspaper and place it on the floor of the bot, next to
the build platform.
2. Remove Facades
2a. Unscrew the large bolts holding on the front and side facades. Remove the bolts and
facades.
2b. If you are sending your Replicator 2 in for repair, you should hold on to these instead of
sending them in along with the rest of your bot They are not needed for any repairs, and they
may be damaged in shipping.
3. Tape the Gantry
3a. Move the gantry all the way to the front of the bot and center the extruder carriage.
3b. Wind masking or packing tape around the Xaxis gantry rods and the front of the Replicator 2
frame on either side of the extruder carriage [indicated by markers 1 and 2 on the image below].
The tape should be wound tightly, and should go around the rods and frame at least twice. When
you have taped at both markers, you should no longer be able to move the gantry back and forth.
3c. Wind masking or packing tape around the Yaxis gantry rods and the sides of the Replicator
2 frame at each side [indicated by markers 3 and 4 on the image below]. The tape should be
wound tightly, and should go around the rods and frame at least twice.
4. Put the Replicator 2 in the Reusable Bag
5. RePack the Cardboard Sleeves
5a. Insert the filament box into the larger of the two empty spaces on one of the sleeves. Stuff
the other side with newspaper.
5b. Take the other sleeve and insert the wrapped acrylic plate into one side and the power supply
and cable into the other.
5c. If you are sending in your bot for repair, you may not need to send all of these items. Iny
empty space in the sleeves should be stuffed with newspaper.
6. Pack the Replicator 2 Box
6a. Add the sleeve containing the power
supply to the bottom of the Replicator 2’s
box.
6b. Add the cardboard honeycomb pieces
at the corners and sides of the box, so that
their lower ends are held in place by the
cardboard sleeve at the bottom of the box,
as shown.
6c. Insert the remaining cardboard sheet from the Replicator 2 box.
6d. Insert the Replicator 2 in its bag into the box.
6e. Add the remaining cardboard sleeve on top of the Replicator 2.
7. Close the Box
7a. Close the top flaps of the box and use a strip of packing tape to tape them down.
7b. Tape the two side seams with packing tape.
7c. Tape the central seam a second time.
