Memphis University School is a collegepreparatory school dedicated to academic
excellence, cultivation of service and
leadership, and the development of wellrounded young men of strong moral character,
consistent with the school’s Christian tradition.
An MUS education is characterized by a
vigorous curriculum, a lively exchange of ideas,
and supportive teaching. Its objective is to
instruct students in the basic skills and subject
matter of the humanities and sciences, to
cultivate the habits and techniques of learning,
and to instill the highest standards of morality
and conduct.

The academic program at MUS covers six years,
divided into Lower School (Grades 7 and 8)
and Upper School (Grades 9 through 12). The
school year is divided into two semesters. Each
student is required to take five credit courses
each semester.

Special Events
A full year of Latin I is required for all students
during the 8th grade year. Students who choose
to continue in Latin must then complete a twoyear Upper School language requirement.

Why Latin?
Latin helps students in a wide variety of academic
areas. For this reason, it has been a fundamental
part of the MUS curriculum since the inception
of the school in 1893.

2016 CAMWS Translation Contest:
MUS was No. 1 in Tennessee in this competition.
Fourteen students placed in the competition.
MUS also had winners in the Medusa Mythology
Exam, The Bernice Fox Classics Writing Contest, the Phaedrus Latin Composition Contest, and the Humanities Tennessee Letters About Literature Contest.
