Re:
Adding a Burner to a non-fired HRSG
Observation:
Many plants would like to have a little “Insurance” with their HRSG’s during peaking conditions or find that an
increase in superheat temperature would increase steam turbine efficiency.
How would you like to have a little extra HP superheated steam temperature or re-gain some performance degradation from an older
plant? It may be possible to add a small burner with out replacing or modifying substantially the heating surface of the HRSG.
Many HRSG’s are not designed for the addition of a burner but the addition of a small 50 MMBtu/hr may be possible. Some of the
considerations are as follows for 50 MMBtu/hr reference burner:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Duct Width
Duct Height
Length Heating Surface Area is from Burner Elements
Gas Velocity, Burner Approach Velocity
Emission Requirements and Permitting Issues
Attmeporation required?
•
•
•
•
•
•
Exhaust Gas Temperature
Increase in Exhaust Gas Pressure Drop allowed?
Distribution Grid required?
Material Limitations
ASME/NBIC Pressure Vessel Codes & Stamps
Radiation
•
•
•
•
•
Gas Train
Pilot Train
Pressure Gages
Safety Interlocks (per NFPA 8506)
Scanner Cooling Blowers
This basic package would consist of the following components:
•
•
•
•
•
Element Assembly with Pilot
Scanner
Ignition Transformer
Mounting Plate
Burner Management System (PLC based)
To start this process would require a Design Study to see if your HRSG is a good candidate for this addition. If Vogt Power
International, Inc. can assist you in this determination, do not hesitate to telephone us.
