run REgeNt’s k ide Par ce gu rA 2017 Sunday June 11 2017 Welcome to your Run Regen t’s Park race guidE You’re about to take on a fantastic challenge and we can’t wait to see you! Along with over 1,000 fellow Macmillan supporters, you’ll help us raise over £165,000 which could fund a Macmillan nurse for three years, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support. To make sure you have a great run and stress-free event day we’ve produced this race day guide, full of everything you need to know about race day itself. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to join our Run Regent’s Park event group on our Facebook page, giving you the chance to talk to other Team Macmillan runners beforehand and discuss anything you might have questions about. Fundraising With race day just around the corner now is the perfect time to give your fundraising a final push – a staggering 50% of all sponsorship received via JustGiving is donated a week before race day! Try re-sending your JustGiving page around your friends and family or run a sweep stake on your finishing time. Social media is also a great way of spreading the message about the amazing challenge you are about to take on! You can carry on collecting in sponsorship after race day is over – there’s nothing like the power of a picture of you crossing the finishing line. Event day AND rAce VIlLagE Your race number and baggage tag You’ll find your race number and safety pins inside this pack. It is compulsory for you to wear your running number on race day – secure it to the front of your Macmillan running top with the safety pins enclosed. Please ensure you have completed the details on the back of your running number in full before attaching. On the bottom of the race number is your baggage tag. You can remove this from the number by tearing along the perforation. Then simply attach the tag to your bag and drop it off at our baggage tent when you arrive on race day. Location Starting times The run takes place in the stunning Regent’s Park. The event village is situated under and adjacent to ‘The Hub’, the parks sports centre and café – just look out for the iconic Macmillan green flags and banners. Event Village opens 08:30am Please allow plenty of time to get to us when walking through Regent’s Park – it’s bigger than you think! Regent’s Park is accessible by London Underground tubes, buses and Rail Networks to and from Euston station. Baker Street (Hammersmith and City, Circle, Metropolitan, Jubilee and Bakerloo lines), Regent’s Park (Bakerloo line) and Camden Town (Northern line) underground stations surround the Park and the following buses pass by 2, 12, 18, 27, 30, 74, 82, 113, 139, 189, 274, 453 and C2. For up-to-date travel information and to check any planned engineering works visit www.tfl.gov.uk Limited pay and display scheme parking is available around Regent’s Park on the Outer Circle. Kids race 09:15am Warm up 09:45am 5k and 10k 10:00am Event Village closes 12:30pm For the kid’s race you must sign in at the main registration desk situated under the hub. For the adults races there will be no need to sign-in, simply turn up wearing your race number. We do advise that you arrive early enough to take advantage of the warm up in order to get fully stretched and ready to go. The 5k and 10k will start at the same time. We ask faster runners to position themselves at the front when lining up at the start line and slower runners and walkers behind. The CoursE You’ll find a map of the course in this guide – the 10k runners will do two laps and the 5k runners, just one. The course has been measured and certified, and takes you past London Zoo, Winfield House and the stunning lake all against the beautiful backdrop of Regent’s Park. Water You will pass one water station on the course to keep you hydrated. If doing the 10k you will pass this twice. There will also be water and light refreshments when you finish. Facilities There will be male and female changing rooms available, as well as limited shower facilities in The Hub. Toilets are available at The Hub however to avoid long queues we recommend using the other toilet facilities around the park as you make your way to the starting line if possible. We will provide sweet treats for all our amazing runners after the race including bananas and chocolate. The Hub café opens at 9am serving a selection of food and drinks and there are other outlets in the park. Or why not bring a picnic and make the most of your day? Spectators and Macmillan Cheer-points If you’ve got friends and family coming along to support you on the day, a great way for them to get involved in the atmosphere is to join our cheer-point on the route. We’ll provide them with a Macmillan t-shirt along with some banger sticks to make the loudest noise possible! To register their interest and get supporter T-shirts sent in advance, please contact Adrian at: [email protected], or call 07710 307065. Spectators can also watch the run from the start and finish area located next to The Hub, from here they will see you run past twice if you are doing the 10k and then finish! We can’t wait to see you on Sunday 11 June. With your support, we can be there for someone facing a cancer diagnosis, so they don’t have to face it alone. We really hope you enjoy the experience and have wonderful memories to take away with you – you should feel extremely proud of your achievement both in completing the run and raising the sponsorship. We can’t thank you enough for supporting us. Remember you can always contact the Running Team for any last-minute questions. If for any reason you are unable to participate in the event please let us know so we can keep our records up to date. Simply drop us an email at [email protected] or call 020 7840 7878.
