The Odyssey
A classic movie made for all periods of time
Scenes to Cut The scene of Circe
telling Odysseus to
go to Hades.
- This is an unnecessary
scene because we later
see Odysseus going to
Hades as a very crucial
part of the story, so
because of budget sake,
we must cut the scene
where he learns why he
needs to go there.
The scene of
Odysseus and his
men receiving the
wind from Aeolus
-This scene is not
important to the main
story other than for
showing the
incompetence of his
men opening the back
and sending them back
to where they started.
The scene where
Odysseus returns
home
- Even thought this is a
very important scene to
the novel, it is not
important to the
message we are trying
to get across, and that is
showing the tribulations
that Odysseus had to go
through to get there.
Main Scene to Include
The scene
where
Odysseus and
his crew enter
Hades
Odysseus was going to do anything to get
home, The whole book was based off of
the fact that Odysseus needs to get home.
At this point and time of the movie,
Odysseus is very desperate and needs
guidance from someone. After Circe tells
him to go down into the underworld, he
doesn’t even question it because he
simply must get home. He follows her
directions to the entrance of Hades, and
when he gets there he says “We have

warriors who want to know what has
gone on since their death, and some even
have requests. Some, like Elpenor, simply
want their body to have a proper burial.
Others like Agamemnon and Achilles,
want to talk to their old friends in battle.
While still others don’t have time to talk

Dialogue in the Included Scene:
Script:
Odysseus: We have finally reached the stream of
Oceanos, men. Bring me my victims to sacrifice
the underworld.
Eurylochos and Perimedes: Yes sir.
(Cuts open the victims bodies and the first spirit
comes out)
Odysseus: It is you Elpenor!
Elpenor: Yes, it is me. I fell off of the roof of
Circe and broke my neck, so my soul came down
to Hades. Will you please burn me on the shore of
the Grey Sea on your way back from Hades to
Ithaca?
Odysseus: I will be sure to do this.
(More spirits come out)
It is my mother! And my friend Theban!
Theban: You wish to return home, my friend, but
you will not get there without being tried by the
powers of god. Control yourself and companions
and you will live through the voyage. Be sure to
make sacrifice to the gods, especially Poseidon,
and you will be fine.
Odysseus’s Mom: Odysseus! What brings you to
the underworld? Are you on your way back from
Troy? Did you ever go back to Ithaca?
(Countless souls surround Odysseus with
simultaneous cries wondering how the world above
them is)
(Fearful, Odysseus return to the ship away from
the crying souls, and sets sail away from the
underworld)
Odysseus: No mother, I am yet to return home, for
I have been in much trouble since sailing with
Agamemnon. But do tell me this mother, what was
the real cause of your death?
Odysseus’s Mom: The cause of my death was you,
my son. I could not stand missing you, and I
became sick and death captured me.
(...Sees Agamemnon, Achilles, Sisyphus, Hercules
and many others...)
