GUIDE
Getting you home safely.
i
WELCOME TO
SAFER DRIVING
The Guardian System works in real-time using
advanced sensors to track eye closure and head
position. This provides early warning and intervention
when signs of fatigue and distraction are detected.
With a unique combination of the in-cab driver sensor and
forward-facing road camera, Guardian by Seeing Machines
provides an unparalleled safety system.
Use of the Guardian System is proven to significantly
reduce risk and the number of fatigue and distraction
related incidents. So you can get home safely every trip.

FORWARD-FACING
CAMERA
The forward-facing camera assists in capturing
and recording crucial external information, should
an event occur.
IN-CAB DRIVERFACING SENSOR
Real-time intervention against fatigue and
distraction is triggered by the in-cab sensor.

1. Processor unit: The core of Guardian; a fanless
high- powered computer.
2. In-cab driver facing sensor, inertia detector and
buzzer: The sensor has an alarm and measures
harsh braking and cornering. A test button is
located on the underside of the sensor.
3. Vibration motor: Vibrates the seat to alert you
during an event.
4. Forward-facing camera: Captures footage of the
road to help mitigate liability and protect you.

5. Wi-Fi antenna: Provides communication between
the Guardian System and Wi-Fi capable devices.
6. 3G/GPS antenna: Tracks location, speed and
orientation of the vehicle. Combined with
cellular capability.

HOW GUARDIAN
WORKS
WHAT HAPPENS
DURING AN EVENT?
The Guardian System uses advanced sensors that track eyelid
closures and head movements, to detect fatigue and distraction.
Guardian protects you with audio alerts and seat vibration if your
eye or head movement exceeds the set parameters. This enables
you to take the necessary preventative action.
For additional protection, Guardian also features a forward-facing
camera with wide-angle lens, giving complete visibility of the road.

FAQ
What happens if the Guardian System
detects an event while I am fatigued or
distracted?
The Guardian System is designed to
monitor subtle eye and head movements.
If the eye or head movement exceeds the
set parameters, an alarm will be activated.
Our 24/7 SafeGuard Center will
then review data from the event in
real-time, and action will be taken
only on real events.
What happens if the sensor is covered?
If covered, Guardian will register a unique
event called a ‘Field of View Exception’
and you will not be protected. The system
will not work and your supervisor will be
notified.
Is the Infrared (IR) Illuminator safe?
Small amounts of infrared light are used
to allow the sensor to see your eyes and
face in the dark (less than 2% of what
you’d receive from sunlight). The Guardian
System has been independently certified
and is safe for indefinite/continuous use.
Does the Guardian System work
with safety glasses, sunglasses and
spectacles?
We have conducted extensive testing
of glasses and safety glasses. While
each case is unique, we can advise
8
you on our recommendations for glasses
that perform well with the system.
Who can access data?
Information can only be accessed by
authorized personnel.
How do I check if the system is working
properly?
You can check the system is working by
pressing the test button on the in-cab
driver facing sensor for two seconds.
A green or flashing green light on the
in-cab sensor means the system is
working properly.
SAFETY ON
THE ROAD
Once installed, Guardian requires no additional set-up or
maintenance by you. The system provides protection whenever
the vehicle is turned on.
A basic check is required to ensure that parts are free from dirt,
dust and greasy substances, and that the sensor remains correctly
oriented. A clean, lint-free cloth can be used to clean the sensor.
Please contact your company supervisor if there are any issues
with the system such as damaged cables, if the sensor is not firmly
affixed or a red light is being displayed on the sensor.
A red light indicates that an error has been
detected. In this instance please contact
your supervisor immediately.
What about privacy?
We respect your privacy. Seeing Machines
has a Privacy Policy which sets out the
types of data the Guardian System may
collect about drivers, and how we collect,
use, disclose and protect this data to
comply with relevant privacy laws. Our
Privacy Policy is available on our website.
