Assignment: Human Body Systems Presentation
In this assignment you will be, in groups of no more than 3 students, researching a body system that is to be studied in
Year 8 Science. There are 5 possible systems that you can choose to research, they are the:





Circulatory System
Digestive System
Respiratory System
Muscular/Skeletal System
Excretory System
You have free choice of the body system you wish to choose to research however; only 2 groups can research the same
system per class to ensure all systems are covered and presented.
What you need to do:
1. As a group pick a body system to research from the above list - tell your teacher your choice.
2. Using the internet, books, videos, databases and other sources research the system you have chosen and answer
the questions on the sheet attached to this assignment.
3. Take the information you have researched and use it to create a speech and presentation (approximately 5
minutes) with a supporting interactive handout for your classmates to fill out along the way. There is a list of
everything you must include in your presentation below.
You could give your presentation in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, Prezi, video or other. If you have
another way you would like to present your body system to the class make sure you check with your teacher first.
4. Your groups’ presentation will be assessed and marked by your teacher and your classmates.
5. You will also be evaluating your group members in relation to their contribution to this assessment task. All
members are required to talk during the presentation.
What you need to include in your presentation:






Identify the role of the body system
Outline each of the major organs/parts in the system and their function
Explain how the major organs/parts work
Describe how the organs in your system are connected and Explain how materials are transported between them
Discuss the factors that might affect the healthy functioning of the system
Outline 4 interesting facts about the system
You will need to include a BIBLIOGRAPHY (at least 3 different sources) using the following formats:
BOOKS
Author (eg Brown, John)
INTERNET

Content
LW2 - Cells are the basic units of living things and have specialised structures and
functions
LW2 - Identify that different types of cells make up the tissues, organs and organ
systems of multicellular organisms
LW3 Multicellular organisms contain systems of organs that carry out specialised
functions that enable them to survive and reproduce
LW3 - Explain that the systems in multicellular organisms work together to provide cell
requirements, including gases, nutrients and water, and to remove cell wastes
LW3 - Describe the role of the digestive, circulatory, excretory, skeletal/muscular and
respiratory systems in maintaining a human as a functioning multicellular organism
Skills
SC4-9WS Presents science ideas, findings and information to a given audience using
appropriate scientific language, text types and representations
SC4-8WS Selects and uses appropriate strategies, understanding and skills to produce
creative and plausible solutions to identified problems
This assessment task should be given to your teacher on the
due date in class
If you are late you must:
1. Inform your teacher.
2. Get a misadventure form from the Head Teacher.
3. Complete all paper work and obtain note from your parent/caregiver.
Late assessment tasks receive a
ZERO
score
