The Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards have been created as a way to recognize TELUS Community Ambassadors volunteering at the Celebration of Giving in Vancouver. Our 2012 accomplishments TELUS Community Ambassadors are a dedicated group of active team members and retirees, and, one of the largest corporate-based volunteer organizations in Canada. More than 2,800 current, former and retired TELUS team members volunteer as TELUS Community Ambassadors in 21 clubs in communities across B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. The Quebec City Community Ambassadors club is thrilled to be a part of the TELUS Ambassadors family. A number of events helped raise over $200,000 for the United Way Toronto, including a breakfast launch, pumpkin carving contest, barbeque, charity fair, luncheon and more. The team’s fundraising made the holidays a lot brighter for many youth and families at the Malvern Resource Center and the Stop Community Food Centre. Upper Island The Upper Island Community Ambassadors club had a productive year. They held a food drive for the Campbell River Food Bank during their annual Christmas dinner. The team also distributed Heart Pillows for patients post-heart surgery, filled Baby Bags for the Campbell River and Comox Hospitals and put together Kits for Kids to donate to local schools. Sunshine Coast The Sunshine Coast Community Ambassadors club donated six computers to the Gibsons & District Public Library. The team refurbished the computers and made all the necessary software upgrades so they could be used for the library’s Lifelong Learning programs and be offered free of charge for use at the centre. The team also presented a $4,000 cheque to the Sunshine Coast Community Services Society to support program costs for the 12th Annual Children’s Festival and Duck Pluck Raffle. The festival is an important fundraiser for the society’s children’s programs. The donation was made possible through the TELUS Sea-to-Sky Community Action Team.
