LIVE M A E R D E TH Visit afl.com.au The AFL appreciates its standing in the community and is proud to have a responsibility to Australia’s youths. Many of society’s role models are current and former players of our great code. These role models have been developed on and off the field of Australian Football and the path they have taken pursuing, living and fulfilling their dreams makes their stories inspirational to many. The AFL Youth and High Performance Coordinator, Jason McCartney, has been an inspiration to countless Australians. On October 12, 2002, more then 200 people were killed in separate attacks in Bali. Jason suffered burns to 50 per cent of his body and significant shrapnel wounds. As a result of Jason’s public status as a Kangaroos player, his recovery was well publicised and embraced by the Australian public. Through the media, we joined him on his road to recovery from his near-fatal induced coma to his heroic return and exit from the AFL game. His inspirational story in overcoming his personal anguish was shaped by his determination to fulfil his individual goals. The AFL, Jason McCartney and current AFL stars have developed a seminar designed to motivate today’s youths and provide them with the necessary tools to live their dreams. The seminar is designed to provide attendees with the necessary skills to take control of their destiny by understanding decision-making, leadership, support networks and goal-setting. The intention of the seminar and workbook is to motivate individuals to “live the dream”, to achieve what they want to achieve. The seminar will take participants through three educational modules titled Goal-setting and Time Management, Leadership and Support Networks, and Choices and Consequences. The modules will require participants to relate their acquired learning to the activities in the workbook. The activities are designed to support the information delivered in the seminar, to provide participants with clear and concise steps in preparing and mapping their future years, and to assist them to fulfil their personal destiny.
