JET WORLD MASTERS 2017
Jet World Masters is a biennial world championship contest for model jets. The
previous competition was in Germany. Model jets are remote controlled aircraft that
have real jet engines and they usually depict a real-life aircraft in a smaller scale.
In Jet World Masters the goal is to imitate the appearance and the flight pattern of
the modeled aircraft. Jets compete in two classes: 13,5 kg and 20 kg (dry weight).
The top speed of the jets vary from 250 to 350 kph. The current world champion
in 13,5 kg class is Pavel Lapshov from Russia and in 20 kg Vitaly Robertus also
from Russia. Both are strong favorites to win also the JWM 2017.
The competition will be held from 13 to 19 August 2017, on Jämijärvi Airfield.
Including the practising week the whole event lasts about two weeks. Competitors
are expected from 25 countries. In addition to competitors, exhibitors and tourists
will come to Jämi and few of them will fly there directly, because one of the two
runways will be open for air traffic during the competition. Jet World Masters 2017
is much more than a world masters contest for model jets: it is a spectacle of
aviation where more than 15,000 people and hundreds of airplanes from all over
the world are expected to visit. According to the umbrella organization of the jet
modelers, International Jet Model Committee (IJMC), the competition will be the
biggest ever in the history of the Jet World Masters. The opening seremony and
airshow will be held on Sunday, 13 August 2017. The theme of the airshow is Jet
Power and therefore both model jets and jet aircraft will perform. The guardian of
the event is Finnish Air Force Colonel Juha-Pekka Keränen, the Commander
of the Satakunta Wing. The official language of the competition is English. The
website will be published in English with abridged versions in Finnish, German and
Russian. The sponsor logos will appear in all language versions.
Jämijärvi airfield offers magnificient grounds. The competition field is seen here from
the direction of the advertisement fence. Hotel Jämi’s terrace contains 200 seats
and the surroundings are pleasantly grassy for a great view for even thousands of
spectators at a time to follow the competition.

Pilvien Huimapäät – ilmailua pelastamassa
Siivet-Wings magazine keeps track of Team Finland’s preparation for the
competition. The magazine will publish Jet World Masters 2017 theme
issue that serves as the program leaflet. It will be mailed to all subscribers.
The theme issue is mainly in English, but the main points will be written
also in Finnish, German and Russian. Siivet-Wings will release an extensive
report on the competition in issue 6/2017.

Jämi runway 15/33 and the adjacent grass
field serve as the competition field. The advertisement fence will be erected at the border of
the grass field and heathland, about 45 meters from the runway. The ads will be visible
between 7 and 21 August 2017. They can be
seen well also in the competition video and in
photos taken from the competition site.
Jämi Arena’s conference facilities serve the
needs of the competition. The 720 square meter gymnasium will be filled with model jets.
The wall ads will be placed in visible spots
where they can not go unnoticed.
