Saturday 3 September BLORENGE AND ITS EASTERN FLANK 10.00. (WRCP 09.00). Park in the Foxhunter car park, by the twin radio masts near the summit. OL13/SO 263107. The car park is on a very minor road turning left near the crest of the Llanfoist to Blaenavon road B4246. Walk to the summit of the Blorenge then via the Punch Bowl pond down to and eastwards along the canal before the long climb back up through woods, pastures and moorland to the start. Catch the 32 bus at 10.00 from Hereford Railway Station - EXP189/ SO 515405 (also calls at Country Bus Station, Broad Street and stops on the Ross road). We will be staying at the very popular ‘Kings’ Youth Hostel near Dolgellau http://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/kings We will be there for two nights, Friday 9 and Saturday 10 September. There will be a good mix of walks on offer on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The accommodation will be in dormitories, a mixture of bunk and single beds. It is essential that cars are shared to avoid a parking problem. Take A40 to Abergavenny, continue to Crickhowell and turn right immediately after the petrol station up Llanbedr Road. After approximately 2.5 miles the road splits 3 ways at a white cottage; take the middle road and at a sharp crook in the road, park immediately after a small stone bridge. OL13/SO 236228. Moderate 6.7-mile walk, with a short climb at the start and finish. A circuit of the head of a beautiful and unspoilt valley with sweeping views of the mountains. Park by the church in the village of Beckford. EXP14/SO 976358. This 8.5 mile, moderate, circular walk is the easiest route to see the panorama that Bredon Hill offers; not to be missed on a fine day. The descent is through the villages of Overbury and Conderton. Meet at public car park at the top of Newnham High Street. This walk in the southern end of the Forest of Dean offers fine woodland walking with open vistas. It passes the attractive Soudley Ponds and the Dean Heritage Centre where refreshments are available and along a section of the Severn Way Path. 9 miles. Moderate. BPL. PLEASE READ THESE IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS General: As a group member it is your responsibility to follow the leader’s instructions for the benefit of the group as a whole. If you should leave the walk early, please notify the leader. Please do not walk in front of the leader. Keep in single file on all roads. Accidents or incidents that occur during the course of the walk, should be reported to the leader immediately. Persons under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Insurance: All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and rambling is no exception. In spite of the safety of members always being the paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important, therefore, that when entering into the activity, each member appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the potential for an accident to arise. Guidance on grades: Easy Access; Walks for everyone, including people with conventional wheelchairs and pushchairs, using easy access paths. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. Assistance may be needed to push wheelchairs on some sections. Easy: Walks for anyone who does not have a mobility difficulty or a specific health problem or is seriously unfit. Suitable for pushchairs if they can be lifted over occasional obstructions. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. Leisurely: Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include un-surfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing recommended.
