Background/Outline In California there are currently 58,699 foster children according to the latest survey in 2013. (kidsdata.org) Ten percent of foster children will obtain a college degree. Our mission for this program is to not only raise this statistic but increase the life skills, success, and confidence for foster children. Many children in foster won’t be given the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. This program will provide students with the support and resources they need to be successful in any situation. Homeless and foster children often do not have access to the rich repertoire of after school or weekend youth activities that are offered throughout the local area. Participation in sports, community theater, and music, have all been demonstrably linked to the development of social and educational success, yet our most vulnerable community members, foster and homeless children, are often unable to participate in such programs . That means that six hundred of our community members who have the greatest need, do not have the opportunity to learn the valuable skills required to improve their lives as adults.
