INTRODUCTION
The Tuareg population of Azawad (Northern Mali) are ever more fragilized due to the recent conflicts in the past few years. Many of them
have lost everything or have fled to refugee camps or look for shelter
without any significant aid. Due to these growing difficulties, we have
decided to create the charity Takrist.

PRESENTATION OF TAKRIST
Who are we?
Takrist was created according to Belgian law in 2013 and is a non-political and
non-profit organization with the objective to promote and defend the elementary
rights of the Tuareg population in Azawad (Northern Mali).
Takrist is a humanitarian organization present in the fields of health care, education and formation, environment as well as defending the basic rights and promotion of the Tuareg culture.
Takrist has three (3) administrative members:

Mary Lindekens, Secretary
Sylvie Van den Steen, Treasurer
Where do we operate?
We mainly operate in the region of Kidal in Azawad (northern Mali) and more precisely on the site of Ingagael, 180 km South-East of the city of Kidal. Ingagael is
located in the Azdjarat valley, surrounded by mountains on the East and dunes
on the West. Ingagael is located on the road between Menaka and Kidal. A water well is present on location, but badly maintained.
Its population, including the surrounding camps, consists of approximately 4500
Tuareg nomads. Their life is essentially concentrated around their stock life,
which is their main source of income. Their craftsmanship, consisting of making
silver jewelry and working leather, is also a source of income but has been suffering the past few years due to the actual political situation and recent conflict
in the area. The income out of this activity has, unfortunately, been reduced to
nothing.

Which are our objectives?
Takrist puts the accent on a North-South cooperation because we are convinced
that real development is only possible by including the local population as much
as possible.
Takrist organization has the following objectives:

Facilitating the access to basic health care;

Promoting education and professional guidance as well as facilitating access to education and offering logistical support;

Participating in the elementary right to water and electricity, as well as investigating on possible agriculture or other cultures;

Active promotion of the Tuareg culture within the local community as well as
worldwide promotion;

Offering support in the defense of the basic human rights of the Tuareg population by organizing sensibility campaigns on their current situation on national and international level;

Construction of a cereal bank to provide sufficient food supply at all times

WHAT DO WE DO?
To reach our objectives, we organize different activities always putting the accent
on the promotion of Tuareg culture in all its aspects.
Some examples of the activities we organize:







Organization of concerts featuring Tuareg bands and musicians;
Organization of encounters around Tuareg tea and traditional meals;
Organization of exhibitions featuring Tuareg artists or other African related
artists;
Organization of conferences around the humanitarian and current situation
of the Tuareg population of Azawad (Northern Mali);
Organization of films or documentary projections on the life and culture of
the Tuaregs;
Exhibition and sale of Tuareg artifacts like silver jewelry and leather ware;
Participation at flea markets.
Some exemples of our 2013 activities:

Concert of the Tuareg band Kel Assouf and exhibition of 4 international artist-painters (Torroo, Leon de Bliquy, Ruth Bircham et Annie Vanhee) at the
Culturel Center Jacques Franck in Brussels;

Private concert with the lead singer Anana Ag Haroun (Kel Assouf);

13 exhibitions of Tuareg artifacts like silver jewelry and leather ware at different events like Journées Fermes Ouvertes, private exhibitions, different
private and public concert, Christmas markets, Days around diversity and
North/South cooperation, etc;

Participation at 6 flea markets for the profit of Takrist.

To facilitate reaching our objectives, we are looking for possible partners interested in offering us financial, logistical or any other form of support.
We are also in search of partners interested in co-organizing a project or cultural
event with us. We are always open for ideas or any form of cooperation.
