SPEENSCHOOLFEST
Kill your speed
18th June to 23rd June
The third annual festival of the arts was again a
success.
Monday and Wednesday
Many thanks to the parents and villagers who supported
the children in a wide range of activities over the week
including art, music and drama. We all learnt a lot about
ancient Greece. Kate Laughton recruited a great range of
professional artists and volunteers and the marquee
looked splendid for the annual PTA Ball. Amanda Dobbs
enabled an amazing £6000 pounds to be raised for the
school. See below.
Councilor Paul Rogerson and SID came to an assembly
to give the children bumper
stickers which will remind
drivers to ‘SLOW DOWN’.
Do you know how fast a
car goes? Does it matter
how fast a car travels? Are
there places in Speen
where you do not feel safe
to walk? The children were
able to ‘investigate’ a
police patrol car and then
have their own running
speed measured by SID, a
Speed Indication Device.
Zeus and his wise daughter seem to have a lot of gold.
Pre-school and YR acted the story retold by Becky Scott
on Monday.
Constable Ralph set the
pace.
A short while ago vandals were found to have caused
damage on the school site. The school gates are locked
out of school hours but last weekend one of the locks
was damaged. We must assume someone was trying to
gain entry. Parents are generous with their time and
money from which the children benefit greatly and it
would be a shame if our limited funds had to be spent on
repairs or replacements. The police have been informed.
If you see someone acting suspiciously near the school,
please contact the police. Please dial 999 if you see
something happening or 101 if you find possible evidence
of a crime.
Tuesday
School Linking Network day.
Speen Year Twos met their friends from Radnage and
Hannah Ball infant Schools for an Olympic day. In the
morning they researched countries which had hosted the
Olympic Games and then had a sports competition in the

space on the coach for parents who wish to support the
staff on this journey through High Wycombe.
The weather was again kind for the annual Country
Dancing Festival at Hamilton School. Children and
parents enjoyed a programme of dances which will be
polished in time for Speen Fete.
Thursday 12th July We have been invited to Speen Preschool sports day. All the children will attend.
Wednesday – Carl Hobson from The Hideaway Club
opened ‘The Hideaway’. Mrs Hayman read a story with
musical accompaniment from Kate and the children.
Coverage of this event was published in the Bucks Free
Press with photographs.
Thursday
Wayne Wonder was a popular choice of
entertainer at the children’s party in the marquee. The
children were very impressed by his tricks and the
parents by his ability to keep the children of all age
groups interested and involved.
Saturday
The PTA Annual Ball. Yet again a great
event, the rain did not dampen the spirits of the revelers
who enjoyed a Greek Feast thanks to The Hampden
Arms and great music from the band. There were lots of
raffle prizes and the Auction was a great success too.
Thank you to all help helped set up, clear up and bought
tickets.

so many families this year. You have made a great team

you all the best for the future and hope to see you at PTA
events in the future.
